our day
introduction and synopsis of the 6 novels available for the Term 3 literature circle
We took some basic notes and the students listened to an excerpt from each of the four short listed
I have gathered the students first and second choices and will create lit circle groups based on numbers- the intent is to get students to read and discuss a novel together.
Editing skills activity using information about Mount St Helen's volcanic eruption - 10 errors of writing we're hidden in the passage (capitalization, omissions, punctuation and spelling or wrong word usage).
Assembly for Pink shirt day in the gym: songs and presentations. We took our buddy class the grade threes down and sat with them.
Back in class instead of doing the switch we played a mental math game grade 6/7 together - it was a team based, 'hit the buzzer first', game and the biggest challenge was for the teams to confer together before the answer was given. The teams were a little too quick on the buzzer and answers not accurate. I would love to do it again when we have time together for math...
Read to self/ drop in
Physical education basketball lay ups and 21, badminton and a small group used the mats on the stage to stretch to some basic yoga poses.
Art - took clipboards and sketching pencils outdoors this afternoon to encourage everyone to observe and sketch the skyline - we have amazing views of BlackTusk, the Chief, Castle Rock and across to the high school - there are also some signature trees and installments like the Squamish Elementary welcome rock not to mention the Canada geese! This activity needs a bit more time.
Day disappeared fast!!!
Dismissal
Enjoy the evening - I have reports to complete!
