Tuesday January 28th

Nearly forgot again! I am really struggling with bronchitis - it feels like there is a heavy weight on my chest! Wahhh!!!
Anyway enough about me...

Reminders
No school Friday this week
Spelling tests Thursday
Grade 7 FSA assessments are on-going and will continue next week. They are scheduled to be completed by Feb 21st.
Socials projects expected by Thursday for weekend assessment
FYI students who handed them in on or before the set due date will receive bonus marks towards their organization and planning assessment

Also, Mrs. Paxton has asked all teachers to put out a call for any interested parent who would be willing  to become our "class parent" for our emergency plan. A class parent would be provided with a package of confidential contact information and would offer to call other parents in the event of an emergency or other unexpected events like a cancelled field trip, electrical black out, situations where a student may need to be picked up to go home.
If you are interested in filling the "class parent" role please e-mail or call me at the school and I will forward your name to Mrs. Paxton.
Please....pretty please?

Another FYI (there is much going on behind the scenes) on Thursday evening the grade 6/7 teachers will be meeting with the transition team from Don Ross- this is our first of several meetings to ensure our students will make a positive move this fall to the middle school model.

Our day...

 Band class

Language arts
Spelling practice
Grammar activity - using and recognizing weather vocabulary
Follow up yesterday's journal entry

FSA assessment - short write section today at the computer lab
Math 6 with Mr. Parker

Read to self

resource room drop in with Mrs. Masterson

Computer session

DPA went out to try to salvage some of the lovely weather before the rain sets in- rain is in the air!

Back in class we used Austin's model ziggurat to discuss the design of the unique structure which first developed in Mesopotamia and using localized irrigation crated the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which was one of the ancient wonders of the world. It was the prototype of the Egyptian pyramid.

Austin's came in a kit from Mexico. There is some discussion among experts about how a design from a middle eastern ancient civilization also turned up a world away in Mexico in an era when there was no travel or inter civilization communication like we have today. Some theories mention 'aliens' !!! There's always an alien in a good conspiracy theory isn't there!!

Anyway another day disappeared. I am drinking lots of chamomile tea with honey to try to ease my cough.
Have a good what's left of the evening.
Mrs. J.
