Thursday January 16th

Apologies for missing a Wednesday post this week- after the staff meeting I had a complete brain fart and neglected to post to the Blog.

Reminders for the last two days of school Jan. 15th and 16th

Please ask your son or daughter for the letter about the dates for the Don Ross meetings for parents.  It was sent home yesterday.  The dates and times of all meetings are included in case you find that the evening of Feb.13th when we are holding meetings here was not a suitable evening for you. This way you can chose the night that you are available.

Some students still need to complete the spelling unit Friday.

Socials project notes and research - suggest some work be done at home to help the progress toward a due date at the end of the month

Our day

Spelling tests (some students requested a Friday test)
We took a class vote and NEXT week we will begin moving the spelling unit tests to Fridays. Today however, I honored the Thursday test day for those who were ready to test.  There is nothing worse than being ready for a test and having it postponed.

Student had a choice of socials research, an SRA reading activity or completing their science activity

Band class

Math 7 in groups today we all completed the same activity for numeracy problem solving
We tackled 5 multiple choice examples and a 4 mark word problem in which all working had to be in evidence.
Identification of patterns and problem solving methods are the intention of these activities.

Ancient Egypt
over the next couple of weeks lessons and activities on all four ancient river civilizations will be conducted for both grade 6 and 7 in order to provide basic insight into the contributions of each of these civilizations.

Today we looked at the hieroglyphic Egyptian alphabet creating our own names from the symbols and placing them in an 'ankh' pendant.

An excerpt from a longer documentary about the interesting placement of the pyramids in Egypt was played for the students to consider how the stars in the sky were used to decide where pyramids were built.

Last couple of days for the collage activity - they are looking great and many are ready for display. I have asked the students not to put their name on the front so people can look at the posters and try to identify who the owner of the poster is.

The sandwiches are pretty interesting too - dead fish anyone?

No novel has surfaced yet that we can all agree on!!
