Friday, Jan 10th (end of first week back)

It has been a productive first week back at school.  It seemed to fly by although there were some pockets of time that seemed to be in a spinning vortex - luckily, though, NOT a polar vortex!

Reminders to....
social studies projects are due but the end of January
Consider doing a section of research or notes for word processing at computers next week at home to advance progress
Nothing else new for this weekend

Our day today....

Shared some information about the transition process for Don Ross from yesterday's meeting- the first step is a visit to the class by Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Ross and then a parent meeting will be organized.  More info. To come and I'll be sure to send it both on the blog and in a newsletter format.

Managed to get the spelling tests completed this morning
Unit 4 and H 'vocabulous' now complete :)

Science- finishing up the Ecosystems unit with a look at the effects that humans and human activity specifically industry has on our environment and displacement of wildlife and resources.  Also considered natural events (upcoming unit on Earth's Crust).
Iceland provided a great example of how the 2010 volcano explosion and it's aftermath wreaked havoc on not only that country but shut down movement between other countries due to the concern about the ash cloud getting into airplane intake.
We discussed a previous volcanoes in Iceland that actually formed a new land mass called Surtsey Island and how it became a scientists paradise for research on how life (flora and fauna) come to be established on or in a new piece of earth.

Read to self

Computer session for social studies (although I noticed many students were fascinated by Google Earth - kind of a "monkey see-monkey do" thing that one student started and next thing a whole group were doing the same!!)

Tried to redirect their attention but really can't get too upset by Google Earth!!

Back in class continued to work on the art activities that we started this week - the French labelled sandwich and the collage "Who I am..."

Mrs. Paxton finished out the day with the class as I had a technology meeting with Mrs. Masterson

Have a great weekend
Mrs. J.
