Monday December 16th First concert evening

Well, we can't be more ready for the Christmas Band concert tonight. Our music teachers, Ms. Sorban and Mr. Chan have worked hard all day as have our students setting up, organizing the seating for over 100 grade 6/7 band members, playing, practicing the perfect endings (you know, when the conductor's baton says stop, everyone actually stops at the same time?)

When it was all said and done- the sound was amazing and hopefully for our parents who are hearing it tonight for the first time, it will be as impressive, if not more impressive, because we have been practicing and listening to the pieces all day and they tend to blend together after the third go around.

Our day

Daily French

9:10-10am
SRA reading program- this may be the only opportunity this week to get a couple of reading cards completed- my main objective today was to determine whether the reading placement levels were accurate or if they needed to be adjusted. I was going to use the word 'tweaked' but now that just conjures up some really bad visual images (Thanks, Miley!).

!0:10:30
Christmas Bingo cards using French vocabulary for the iconic Christmas images- the students started to create their 'custom' cards today using the images for which we brainstormed the corresponding French vocabulary on the board.

after recess
11-11:45
Band practice for the grade 6/7 and Honour Band classes

Back in class we ate an early lunch as this afternoon the students were due to be back in the gym at 1:15pm for a dress rehearsal for the primary students.

1:20-2:20pm afternoon concert went smoothly and some more simultanteous 'music stopping' practices were needed and their timing got better and better!

back in class we started to decorate the classroom using and cutting the traditional templates of fancy designed snowflakes from white paper - edging the flakes with a blue pencil or felt once they are cut out creates an effective 'icy' look to each flake.

I thought we might get in a chapter of Word Nerd but it wasn't to be - I found the students a little stir crazy after all the band and music discipline!

little bit of a different day- hope to see you all tonight- come and enjoy your children's hard work. I am sure you will be impressed at all the talent.

see you later
Mrs. J.
