I seem to be having trouble spelling the month of November!
It is my West Van evening so the post is later than usual.
Another decent day in our class ;)
Reminders
Spelling unit 8 and challenge 4
No new homework
We had a Lockdown Drill today at 1pm - they are necessary drills like fire and earthquake but I think the students sometimes have a difficult time with the lock down drill almost like it is hide and seek. We have a bit of work to do being serious about these drills that we hope we will never need. The most important thing in a lockdown is to be out of sight and 'out of hearing' (silent) but you can imagine the giggles...add a 'body' noise (yes, they had just eaten lunch!) and they were literally rolling on the floor laughing - which would be hilarious if I wasn't responsible for their 'lives'. The things we do for a living!! Lol
FYI we have a tap dancing assembly tomorrow - a company called TapCo is coming to perform for us tomorrow afternoon
Our day
Started with some spelling practice (many chose not to - said they felt confident for tomorrow!)
Then, we did an editing skills activity - finding a variety of capitalization, punctuation, spelling and omission errors in a short written paragraph on the Olympic Games.
Next we did one of my groaner riddles that the students have to cross out vocabulary words to find the solution. This led us to a round the class review of making plural nouns.
French
more work on the posters (les affiches)
I was surprised that the majority chose the Christmas scene over the winter poster but the students are doing a fabulous job on them- funny how many boys want to do black and white posters rather than color. These posters will be 'embellished ' en francais - the art is a snarky way of fitting in some French.
Sneaky way - not snarky - don't you just love text correct?
Math
Applying our conversion skills to problem solving
Computer session on-line look and practice on the sample FSA assessment (on-line through the Ministry of Education)
Lockdown drill
Read to self
Record
Phys Ed basketball and floor hockey
The students chose to work more on their posters at 2:30pm rather than do a personal planning
activity. While they worked, I read the next chapter of the novel Word Nerd
I love how they enjoy it- it is a pleasure to read aloud.
Anyway, end of day came sooner than expected.
I did remind them about spelling before they ran out the door!!
Have a good night ...it is time for my class.
