Another early dismissal for parent teacher meetings Nov 28th
Sorry folks, another fast post...
trying to get this done between meetings and the faster I try to keyboard the more errors I make (I just stopped to fix five in this couple of lines!!)
Reminders
last day today for official parent meetings regarding the first term report but please know that if the schedule this week did not suit just call or e-mail and we can set a time aside for a meeting at a more suitable time for you.
The students supported Madame Jacob's class idea of the manicure fundraiser and we made nearly $400 for Christmas Community Care and we also have beautiful nails :)
- we are also challenging our students to fill the grocery basket at the front of the school - drop off any non-perishable items and fill our grocery cart- borrowed with permission (I should add!!)
Christmas gifts are okay too for the 'empty stocking' donations
tomorrow is the order day for Scholastic Nov./Dec orders as we want the books to arrive before the break. There will also be an end of the month class reading record draw in which one boy and one girl will be randomly drawn to recieve a $5 coupon for a Scholastic book of their choice.
OMG it is the end of the month tomorrow!!! Yikes, when did that happen?
Our Day
spelling tests Unit 1 (Term 2) and E words for the challenge group
practice run through a story about watching whales and a sample activity for SRA reading comprehension and language/vocabulary study (word work)
to be completed (maybe tomorrow or Monday)
band class
math 7 groups today
together we looked at the concept of a 'magic' square and used integers to illustrate how to use addition to figure our subtraction of integers.
I like to teach the substitution of addition method first as I find it easier for the students to follow and understand
Groups
working on more practice for converting decimals to percent to fractions
and the challenge group on adding and subtracting integers (brief introduction to writing algebraic expressions)
read to self
record - only one more day for recording November (draw tomorrow)
art
as per yesterday les affiches or the hot/cold geometric figure while I read (and manage to complete) the next chapter of Word Nerd
the students really enjoyed this one because Ambrose finally manages to stand up for himself with the 'three stooges' (the peer group who were bullying him) and he wins the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Scrabble Tournament. They wanted another chapter but I didn't have the time today.
We are now at Chapter 23 of 30.
dismissal bell after we had packed up- I am taking the time to ensure that only a certain number of students enter the cloakroom together to try to avoid the overcrowding of the whole group at once- wish I had of that a little earlier!! Duh!
Have a great evening.
Looking forward to meeting the rest of my students' parents who have booked appointments. Gotta go...
Mrs. J.
