it was a busy day and we had a pretty good Tuesday :)
Some nights I don't sit down until 9pm!!
So back to our day
Band class first
Corrected the editing skills from yesterday- some students find it easier than others but the beauty of these little activities that only take five minutes of attention to detail is that the more practice with them the easier it becomes to recognize written errors.
Next was a bit of time for prep for Thursday 's spelling test - I structure it so that of students focus on 3-4 words each day they will be ready for the test Thursday
Novel: Touching Spirit Bear chapter 4
This novel is one that really touches some of the themes that young people today experience despite our effort as parents to keep them safe and innocent. Today the chapter inspired a student to approach another and apologize for his behavior as well as a discussion about how we all know how to play the 'game' and say or do things that are expected of us to meet the expectations of others. The students had a chance to write about their own experiences of this by drawing a parallel between the novel's circle justice meeting and school.
The question was demanding:
In your own words (experience) how do the attitudes of the characters who attended the justice circle meeting in Chapter 4 reflect the attitudes and behavior of some students (and adults) in schools or
other institutions.
The students actually did an excellent job of recognizing the parallels - some of which I will share in a later post his week.
Math 7
Complete the Ch 2 work from yesterday - using front end estimation to determine the correct placement of a decimal point also adding and subtracting decimals aligning the decimal point vertically

Computer lab - main focus for today was on answering the question from this morning's discussion about our class novel- we had an extended session in the lab
Back in class we discussed a new seating plan but we didn't have time to complete it - planner time and distribution of the survey letters was all we had time for.
The days honestly seem to fly by...
See everyone tomorrow
Mrs. J.
