Oct 31st Halloween (we survived the day :))
Reminders
no homework tonight
please have a safe and happy evening halloween night- be bright (wear something reflective, go with friends of family and screen your goodies at home)
photo retakes November 13th
Our day
spelling Unit 5 and Challenge #1
group activity The Monster Cafe- the six groups in the classroom made an effort to out gross the other groups with a whacky, horrible restaurant menu fit for monsters, ghoulies and other zombie type creepies at their Monster Cafe
Didn't share this yet (tomorrow?)
there were some very disgusting creative dishes!!!
They definitely got into the spirit of it (oh lord, bad pun)
Band class
Math first group session- it seems to have been a successful venture - one group is working on basic skills instruction or remediation
another on practice of those skills and the third on applying skills to solving word problems - we worked in different areas
read to self and record
the October draw was won by Dylan and Kiarrah (each receive a voucher for a book choice from the Scholastic catalogue for November (which was distributed today)
new record of reading tomorrow
Mrs. Dawson popped us popcorn. I provided some seasonal (pumpkin sugar cookies), everyone had the option of having a pear while we watched the Goonies
it was sure nice to hear the students laugh at the silliness.
Thanks to Autumn for the homemade cookies- yummy!
It is always a difficult job to chose a suitable movie but the majority of students seemed to get into the story.
I could tell though that some were not fully entertained and a small group of girls asked for colouring and word puzzle pages that I had ready just in case.
Approx. 20 minutes of the movie is left- tomorrow we will finish it up as we stopped it at a climactic scene.
It was a 'chill' afternoon and I hope they have some energy for the evening.
See everyone tomorrow :)
Happy Halloween
Mrs. J.
