First day of combined classes, September 6th
Still experiencing difficulties with editing function- may have to resort to my i-pad to complete this one!
Friday morning Mr. Parker and I welcomed our combined grade 6/7 students for the school year. We each have 26 students for the most part equal numbers grade six and seven and a good gender balance thanks to the plethora of grade six girls.
The students will have the opportunity to be together with all their same aged peers once a day because the math program for grade 6 will be with Mr. Parker and I will have the grade sevens for their math 7 program.
Friday we completed an organizational power point about the plans we need to agree on in order for us to work, eat, learn and socialize together in our classroom community.
The students started an All About You written activity which asks them for information that will help me to get to know who they are. We will complete that Monday.
During Math 7 today we completed the Scavenger Hunt activity from the Text MathLinks7. This textbook is used in Don Ross at the Grade 8 and 9 levels so this year is an introduction to junior high math skills, concepts and thinking.
After lunch and "read to self" time, we headed to the computer lab for a quick review of ettiquette and an introduction to the teacher program called Insight. We reviewed the school guidelines for computer use during free time and then had some time to check out some websites and our class Blog.
We started an art activity which needs more time for completion next week. Acrostic name posters- some students struggled to find adjectives that described their personalities.
Everyone was on their best behvaiour today- I love the 'honeymoon' period! I will be sure to enjoy it while it lasts :)
A Newsletter was sent home with a request for contact information- if you already completed one for the grade seven Math program you do not need to complete the Newsletter version.
We are working on slotting in the Band, Physical Education and computer lab times before we issue our new class schedule for the 2013-2014 school year.
Have a great weekend. I look forward to getting learning rolling next week.
Mrs. J.
