Happy Birthday to my nephew, Sheldon, up in Kamloops, B.C.
The band concert was well attended last night and was fabulous. Great job Ms. Sorban and the grade 6/7 students- they all looked so sophisticated dressed to the nines and performing in the band with their command of their instruments. So cool. Wonderful year end performance and a special treat to perform in the Eagle Eye Theatre although the venue is not big enough for our numbers!!
Reminders:
Pancake Breakfast tomorrow bring a toonie and a donation for the food bank.
Monday grade sevens visit Don Ross Secondary
Our day
The students looked tried and lacked energy this morning...I wonder why :)
So we didn't try anything too ambitious just trying to wrap projects and bits and pieces up so the presentations can happen tomorrow
Greek and Roman socials newspapers- four of six groups are ready now (the other two have a bit more gluing to do but they have lots of articles and fun ads and puzzles. I am really looking forward to seeing the final products. Considering the project only had two weeks the students have done well to create their newspapaers - as I said yesterday, only one newspaper group had to be 'disbanded' meaning 20 students worked in teams well enough to create an effective newpaper featuring Roman or Greek civilization.
Math 7
Had the student complete a profile card for DRS to help me complete the 'articulation' forms that go to DRS next week before their report cards.
Spend a Million project coming to a close- I'd have to confess that this one really needed more time than this last week to be done properly - the students (for the most part) are doing their best in the time and, given the challenging computer time issue, have been engaged creating their ideal world using a million dollars as the guide!
Some seem to be enjoying planning their possible homes, transportation, jobs, necessities and living expenses.
Silent reading was more like 'quiet completing' today and that was fine. I allowed a bit of extra time as the students were using it wisely...
Time for a complete change- a brain break and a logic thinking activity. We partnered up for a toothpick challenge. It worked very well. Only one team was so frustrated that the toothpicks flew and a few got chewed on. Many partners worked together effectively to complete the challenge. Way to go!
(The original activty called for matches- can you imagine the possible pitfalls of using matches?)
We played a class game together to end the last 15 minutes of the day (only a couple of students had difficulty following the rules). Did you even know it was possible to 'cheat' at Thumbs Up?
Me neither!?
Why?
Another faster than a speeding bullet kind of day...
See you for a pancake tomorrow
Mrs. J.
