What does it tell me that more people in Europe and Russia read our class Blog posts than people in Canada?
Hmmmmm...!!
No new homework
Reminders
Camp payment is due in the next couple of weeks. Of 24 students, 20 are signed up to attend and of those 11 still have to pay for the three days at Evans Lake (May 29-31). All forms are in from the 20 and I am just looking for a couple of health numbers.
I do not want anyone NOT to attend camp if it is a $$$ issue as we have recently completed some successful fundraising and we can help offset costs for anyone in a financial bind
Our day...
I polled the class on a possible June fieldtrip- about 80% are interested in a trip to the waterpark but I have to see about the possibility of another class joining us due to costs and numbers. More later...
completion of the paragraph activity set yesterday morning ('tangled articles' to re-write in order and into the correct paragraph)
Novel time- good progress is being made by the majority of students- a few are having difficulty staying on task- I am pushing for a mid May completion of the novel work
French this morning- one of my thoughtful students suggested we try a French class in the morning- great idea it worked well. Today we reviewed the use of the verbs jouer and faire in relation to playing les sports and de le= du et a le= au
Math 7 -area of a circle- some interesting dynamics going on in class today. I am doing my best not to take things too personally and stay the course teaching the math skills. Practice examples even numbers Ch 8.3 p. 285-286
shot put grades 3-5 at lunch today
silent reading after a dramatic incident with a piece of cheese! Yesterday it was curry (save me from the hormonal surges)
Personal Planning - distributed the Teenage Survival magazine today for intorduction to the next few weeks of personal planning. It coverss physical, emotional and social changes theoughout puberty and provides other areas to consider as our children grow up into young men and women who have to know how to look after and out for themselves. I think I need the Teacher's Guide to Surviving Teenagers!! Maybe I should get started writing that one!
Kites - class set of kites- I was so excited about getting this started today I didn't relaize that there was more to it than just decorating the material!! I realized afterwards that I had forgotten all about yesterday's mother's day projects! My bad.
I was surprised at how many students had difficulty following the directions and tying knots - this took us all the way to the day's end when one of the students said, "Hey, it's one minute to the bell!" I was still trying to punch holes for the strings, expalin how to bolster the bridle as well as teach knot tying 101. Arghhhhh
Then there was the crew who were still in the midst of still decorating. Needed more time as usual...
The bell sounded, the students left and the mess that was left behind was substantial- I'll whine at them tomorrow! Sheesh!
Have a good night
Mrs. J.
