Our day...

Grade sevens had an extra band practice which allowed me some time to work more closely with the grade six students.Oh, the things we could do with 10 students in a class!!

Once the grade sevens returned to class (9:45am) we decided to complete the Mystery Powders Lab analysis activity from Monday just so we didn't completely forget the point of the lab by next week. It is amazing how many learning outcomes can be covered on a simple science lab AND the students have fun fiddling around with a bit of powder and iodine!
Math 7 returned the Math unit review test and requested a bit of feedback from the grade sevens on the tests and their prep for them- results were generally disappointing and approx. a third of the students are requesting a "do-over'. I have been clerar that I do not want to write another unit review if they are not making an effort to prep and study in the effort to improve results!
One of the biggest errors was not including the formula which led to incorrect variables and therefore inaccurate answers!! Domiono effect.
We reviewed one sample activty from each page.

grade 3-5 shot put practice for the upcoming District Track and Field Day (May 30th, Whistler)

Silent reading
made the mistake of giving the students their recent class photograph during this time and had to 'shush' them back to reading!! Wasn't thinking straight!

French- les sports- completed the last grammaire page on the activity booklet- conjugating Faire and Jouer and placing them into the context of les phrases to complete the sentence correctly.

Personal Planning - we did a quiz on what might be a weird scenario or an okay scenario to do with relationships and situations. I had the students listen and then give a thumbs up signal if it was okay or sideways if it was not quite right or comfortable. I was impressed with their instincts- the questions were derived from a resource called, Respect Yourself published by The Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

To end the day and try to drum up some excitement for our upcoming fieldtrip to camp, I showed a 2010 dvd taken of a former trip from our school to Evans Lake. I think the students enjoyed it becuse one young man who has been saying he is not interested stayed after school to get some new forms to sign. That made my day :)

Dismissal came quick.
Enjoy the weekend
Mrs. J.
