yuk, March 1st TGIF

Hello, spring rain!

We have a swimming pool complete with swings over the deep end in our playground.!!

No homework this weekend - I have the homework instead as I have to complete the report cards for Mrs. Paxton to check on Monday March 4th

Report cards for Term 2 will go home on Friday March 8th

Reminders
camp forms
DRS grade eight registration packages for the grade sevens (please get back to us by spring break)

Our day...
Band class

Science formulae for volume and density in our quest to quantify matter and use both qualitative and quantitative properties to describe and write up excellent science experiments (labs).

Math 7 returned yesterday's quiz on solving equations ...Hmmmm.... of 25 students who wrote a third are needing to redo achieving less than 50% on the review of the skill. Not surprised but concerned that some (i may have mentioned them before) are doing things the same and expecting different outcomes (others don't really seem to understand the importance of what we are doing and how it impacts other learning). The good news of course is that 14 passed with achievement all over the map from 50% on the nose to 98% so two thirds are 'getting it' and some would 'get it' even better if they showed their step by step working!!

Also continued with the design on Cartesian graph- today we worked on creating a T-rex point by point- the students are doing a good job with this skill (well...most are)

Silent Reading
April TRC Scholastic flyers
last hurrah for SRA cards today- I collected them for assessing progress for Term 2

Hannah Mac and Bailey helped with the Kindergatreners this afternoon

new seating plan- we are going to try a horseshoe floor plan for the 10 days before srping break- not sure if it will work but I'll try anything to get an effective learning atmosphere and 10 days is perfect for this experiment.
After spring break I predict another seating plan!!!
Call me crazy (maybe)!

High school mentors arrived

Art
images of Greek mythology- gods, beasts and 'monsters' from depiction through the years and different art genres. Students are choosing images and today was the experimental sketch - we downloaded some copies and everyone managed to get an image or a depiction that could get the project underway. It was neat watching (waiting) for some to make up their mind about what they were interested in sketching as their are so many neat characters and images to choose from. I love the digital overhead for this reason.

We got so busy I forgot to read a chapter from our class novel and no one remembered!

the afternoon seemed to disappear but the rain is still falling with gusto
we cleaned up, packed up and headed into the rain...
Have a dry weekend unless you are playing soccer tomorrow :( Bring a towel with your soccer gear.

See you Monday with the reports :)
Mrs. J.
