Yes, I know it should be happy and celebratory and all that fine stuff but there is no way that anyone can keep it going for 5 hours so I am usually very contolling when it comes to celebratory days and do my best to keep a tight rein on the 'celebrations' so that everyone is included and has a chance to either contribute or enjoy a treat.
Thank-you to the families who always come through with support of one kind or another: the awesome moms of Hannah, Jade and Aidan whose contributions were well received and enjoyed by everyone. Along with some 'love punch' (Frutopia and club soda) and some heart shaped cookies (thank-you Nesters) that I provided, there was more than enough for the class. Jade made beautiful fabric pouches (envelopes) to deliver a small baggie of cinnamon hearts to everyone in class- it was a perfect gift and everyone appreciated them.
Homework
nothing new
spelling next week Monday and Tuesday
Reminders
thank you to all parents who came out to brainstorm and suggest fundraising ideas for the Camp- we seem to have a couple of firm suggestions and once I have the details I will let you know what is needed and maybe you can let me know if you can be of any assistance
Camp forms (I have 15 of 24 and was a little taken aback at the number of grade sevens who said they may not be particpiating!!) Please know that if the lack of interest is because of the cost, there will be an opportunity to help fundraise - we would like everyone who would like to go to plan on going and not to make $$$ the issue.
[This age level can sometimes be fickle- they want a fieldtrip- we plan a fieldtrip- they now don't want to be part of that fieldtrip but next week when the moon is on the rise they might change their mind- so I won't give up hope yet that we will have a full house at camp in May]
Purdy's for Easter fundraiser (PAC)? Due next week now Wed, Feb 20th
Hoodie orders are all in for our class many thanks
Honour Band trip tomorrow
Our day...
quick Daily French
SRA reading program
French quiz- arrangez-vous [students are so predictable when we do quizzes. They all looked shocked like they didn't know about it but from my observation everyone participated with serious effort :)]
Math 7 FSA Numeracy problem solving session
1-2pm Vancouver Aquarium Aquavan workshop
an excellent hands-on, informative and interesting workshop about the local ecosystem of Howe Sound, diversity of marine life and reasons for stewardship of our ocean front. The students seemed to really enjoy it and the presenters were very well organized and great with our kids.
2-3pm our Valentine's celebration as promised - an hour window- I made some punch and filled their cups, I had lots of helpers willing to do the rounds, Dylan took control of the digital overhead and volume and found some appropriate music on YouTube for class, the girls used their empty cups to show me how to do the 'cup song' (see it on Facebook), some of the boys wanted to play a card game and evryone enjoyed some treats (cookies and donuts) and time to 'visit' each other.
It was fine- can't say I wasn't happy when three o'clock rolled around though- I wanted to read a chapter but the students disagreed and I accepted that mutiny!
Why do boys like to throw cinnamon hearts around? Seriously, they were in all my 'nooks and crannies' and I didn't even see it happen!! Thanks for the help in cleaning them up, Ravi :)
Have a great end of Valentine's Day- I wonder if like April Fools it should be over by lunch time?? Who came up with that rule anyway? My mind is digressing...
Mrs. J.
