The days seem to be going so fast that it is honestly time for dismissal and I don't even know how it got there!!
We have been so lucky with some nice weather to start back to school- it keeps everyone's spirits up I think to see the sun shine even though it is getting a little more chilly after the sun goes down.
Homework and Reminders
Math 7 have three or four division examples to complete using double digit divisors (please do not worry if they can't do it but I really want them to at least try to follow the steps which we covered today)
Math 6 complete the T table w/s from class today
French Questionnaire (most completed it in class) but if not it needs to be completed for tomorrow
Supplies (especially binders so we can get the organization in place) and planner $$
Our day today
Daily French- a greeting, the day and date and the weather (high frequency vocabulary)
Personal Planning: Today I returned the diagnostic results after explaining to the students what they meant. I want them (and parents) to know that these informal results help me to determine which skills are strong, in need of review or weak and in need of more instruction and practice. I had the students respond to their thoughts and feelings about what their individual results were and I had some interesting comments.
FYI the students in this class have skill that range from grade 3 to gr 10.
Music 9:45-10:30
Math 7 today I reviewed my classroom and learning expectations and procedures for missed days and or behaviour issues. I explained the three part lesson structure
1. instruction - VIP visual instruction plan - a VIP is a hand out with steps for a given skill which I then go over again in detail using a class chart. The students then have the instruction in visual and written format.
2. practice together with me as a whole class, with each other in pairs and/or in groups
3. on your own - trying the skill by yourself
Today's instruction: dividing with whole numbers
we worked on #1-4 together and we are completing # 5-8 for self practice and if not complete in class, for homework for review tomorrow
Silent reading (with some yummy plums from the Fruit and Veg program)
A shout out to the girls in my class who delivered them today: Kaitlyn, Dawson, Lucy, Jade, Teaghan and Rowan.
French a ten question questionnaire which helps me get a reading on who can remember what they have done in French before and if they can recall any French vocabulary. I played a song that reviewed the sounds of the letter of the French alphabet which is where we are starting. Many students managed to complete the questions in class. A few have it to complete tonight.
Novel Ch2 Dragon Keeper- I used popsicle sticks today to encourage students to read a couple of sentences aloud. It was painful and obviously not the correct method for these students. I noticed two things :1. the students do not track well- that means that they are having difficulty following the words as I read them (which can be because I am reading too quickly OR they are not fully focused on the words because they are socializing or daydreaming or...!) and 2. read aloud skills are weak and in need of some time and review and practice!! We need to get serious about reading.
agendas done before Phys. Ed.
Phys Ed in the gym today. We did a line soccer game. I tired a warm up but many of the students were not properly prepared (this week was a preliminary timetable and they were told but not reminded yesterday) and were unable to take part others took part half heartedly. I usually use music- it sent some of my boys into overdrive! Like I said last week I need to revisit the gym and Phys. Ed. plan and maybe get some behaviour issues and procedures ironed out before we go back to the gym.
I dismissed from the gym tonight.
I have another busy evening. Gotta go. have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
