It's so nice that the weather pattern is holding although a few students were complaining of headaches this afternoon.
We had another productive day and we are beginning to get things off the ground a bit more as we begin to establish routines and our schedule. By next week I should be able to provide you with an idea of the weekly schedule of classes and activities.
Welcome Helena J. :)

Reminders
Verification forms were sent home for you to send back with any updates to addresses or new phone numbers etc. please look it over and if everything is the same just sign it and send it back- merci
Mrs. Sorban wants student who need instruments to have the TOM LEE music information- the company will be at our school on Monday 24th- a package was also sent home this evening
supplies and binders and $$ for planners would help tremendously with the set up and organization
Our day today
we started in the gym for a 45 minute session. My intention was to 'take back the class organization'
I had them do a couple of community activities- silently get into order of your birthday month and day so you are in a straight line and in order but without any talking- communicate silently- they did a great job only two were out of place and only by one place.
Next we tried silent ball- boy to girl and girl to boy so everyone was part of the activity.
Next we tried a tag game (Everyone is it) for the length of one song. No one was allowed to stop moving for three minutes (well unless they were tagged out).
From there I had them work in teams on a set of posters which asked them for input into such issues as safety, gym strip, games they like, assessment and fair play. I will consolidate the responses and we wll create some runrics for tewrm assessment together.
That should help us in the Phys. Ed. program.
Back in class we read the next chapter (incomplete as yet) of chapter three of our class novel Dragon Keeper. I intend to get through at leat five chapters before we begin to do any written activities as the novel takes a few chapters to get going.
Math 7 I collected the division homework and realize that I probably started the instruction too high. I returned the diagnostic results. I was a bit shocked to discover that subtraction seems to be just as weak as division (both are realted of course). I need to 'back up my math bus' and deal with whole number review before embarking on the Grade 7 learning outcomes.
Today we did a divisibility worksheet together and the students have it to complete tonight. We did a couple of samples on the IXL website. You might want to look into sunscribing to it. If not the students are allowed 20 free samples a day. It outlines practice for prescribed BC curriculum from K- grade 10.
[Is Eric reading the Blog? Hi, Eric it is difficult to complete work that is left in class!!]
Did you know today was Niall's birthday- you know, Niall from One Direction? Me neither, but to celebrate Niall's birthday we played a One Direction video from You Tube. I think my girls were happy campers.
Silent Reading (extended this a little due to the time it took to get everyone settled today!)
I am observing more 'picture pointing' than I like to see so next week I will be limiting the picture books to once or twice a week as I want to encourage actual reading. Reading is a skill that only improves the more you do it. Graphic novels are fine but reading must be part of the equation.
French phoenetic sounds of the alpahbet en francais (sorry about missing the accents but I can't seem to make the ALT buttons work on the Blogger program).
We also worked on a title page for the French section of our binder so we did a little art a las carte after brainstorming some icons and symbols and art pieces that would be appropriate for French. Some great ideas and colourful pages were created.
Science texts were distributed BC Science 6 and BC Science 7 both texts have on-line learning components that are available with internet access- I showed the students the interactive website today on the overhead. We also compared the 6 and 7 curricular units and discussed the crossover of the topics. We ahve different texts but there will be a lot of similar and together actvities for science this year.
Agendas and distribution of forms from Ms. Sorban and the office took up the last 10 minutes of our day.
Have a good night. See you Friday.
Mrs. J.
