Spelling Test #1
Thank you to Nidhin's mom for noticing an embarrassing spelling error on the Nov 1st spelling list. I had misspelled 'theraputic'. It should be spelled 'therapeutic'
mea culpa (apologies)
Science poster activity - a K-W-L (what you know already, what you want to know and what learning (in this case) is in the text). In groups the students previewed their science texts looking for the key ideas and words for our first units Science 6: Living Things (diversity of Life) and Grade 7: Ecosystems
Math 6
Math 7 Do you know that I have not had a math class yet this year in which all students are present!
Today we reviewed and brainstormed all 'code' words for the basic skills of add, subtract, multiple and divide. We continued our practice of those skills with great success. It is very interesting how some students think I am not serious about them showing their working!!!
Challenge puzzle for homework. Some have the days class activity to complete first.
Silent Reading
Personal Planning "Don't eat the marshmallow" from Ted Talks and you tube a look at what it means to have some self regulation and interesting research that tells us that youngsters who have the ability to delay gratification and manage some self control do better in life!!
Written activity (wanted to make it a discussion but the students were all tired and flagging from the heat in class)
I asked:
Would you be able to resist the marshmallow test?
What is the most difficultt thing (for you) about being patient and waiting (delaying gratification)
What do you feel you might need to work on regarding your self control.
'Catch up' time- or Art activity
Students who were all up to date with assignments worked on art and those who needed to made the effort to get incomplete work finished. (I was impressed by the students' skill in negotiation- talk about delaying gratification!)
Can't believe the day is over already
planners and dismissal
Have a good night and remember there is no school tomorrow- have a long weekend!
Mrs. J.
