Quick one tonight, see you at our annual pot luck

Hello ...another beautiful day- not exactly my idea of 'paradise' though!!

productive day another quick as a wink one too

Homework
math 7 no NEW homework- that means if you have anything incomplete it still has to be completed but if you are all up to speed with the assignments, there is nothing new for math7
FYI I have a poster of MIA assignment and INC (incomplete) that the students can check to see what's not been handed in

Math 6 no new homework (I'm sure Mr. P. will say the same thing as above)

Science activity from today- some may decide to complete it at home (but I did not set it as H/W) as there will be 'catch-up' time tomorrow afternoon

Novel, Dragon Keeper, read the chapters 6-10 (end of chapter 10 with an eye to the events of the rising action and the conflict that grows between the dragon hunter and Ping
Dylan please catch up and hand in paragraph for Ch 1-5

Reminders
  • annual pot luck tonight- bring the family round for dinner
  • Terry Fox run tomorrow- I have challenged my class with donations- whatever they raise, I will double so far we have nearly $20 that I have to match- great generosity (yikes!)
  • thank-you for the payments and the forms that came in today- I knew if I were patient that things might come in slowly as I persist!!
  • hot lunch tomorrow if you ordered
  • Derek please bring your immunization form back (pretty please?)
Our day included...

daily French (it is getting better and students are beginning to speak the HF vocabulary and answers- c'est tres bien, n'est ce pas?

spelling tests Unit 2 and alternate List Unit 1

paragraph activity- definition of a paragraph- the structure and expectations (rubrics)
the students Ch 1-5 paragraphs were returned

Math 7 today Mrs. Paxton introduced the Mind Up program to the math class as I was at a meeting for the learning support of the 6/7 and the Math7 classes. Mind Up is a program that teaches brain based research and strategies for becoming more mindful as a learner and  more responsible as a person in a  given community. It offers strategies for improving focus, attention, resilience to stress and self-regulation.

silent reading - today was not as 'silent' as it could have been- some students have difficulty settling to read- we will be working on this together in the next few weeks. Students improve reading skills by reading- no reading- no improvement.

science 6 and 7
similar activities different texts and grade based groups of three and four. Each students worked together and independently to complete the initial activities for Unit 1 (grade 6- living things, grade 7 defining biotic and abiotic interactions)

Buddies: We did a scavenger hunt out in the field with our grade 1 buddy class (Ms. Gibson's class). The students all seemed to enjoy the time outside as well as each other. Great job and nice to see the positive interaction with the little ones.

By the time we returned to class there wasn't much time left in the day for my class vote on the motto and I insisted that everyone wash their hands after picking things up outside! That was an interesting exercise; watching them splash each other with water and dance around the sink but I am happy to report enough soap for all!!

We did planners and the bell for dismissal rang before we had finished!

See you tonight? The weather is so nice we decided to set up the tables outside-food inside...
Mrs. J.
