Saturday August 18th already

Quick update and check in as I am checking the other Blogs that I follow for some light reading.

I am procrastinating of course as I 'm supposed to be completing a completely easy task- but that's what summer is for- I can always rest tomorrow.

Congratulations to Liam J. for successfully completing another course towards his ultimate goal to be a Lifeguard by the time he is 16. This week he completed the ASWI course at the West Van aquatic centre and for me to get the chance to watch him teach youngsters to swim was priceless. He has found something that he truly loves and watching the Olympics this summer was more inspiration for him. The possibilities are vast for young people when they know what they love and have a passion for reaching personal goals. I am so impressed. I don't remember being this driven when I was 15 years old!

A girlfriend and I caught up on the past year as we hiked the Baden-Powell trail in North van this week- whew I was sweating by the time I was half way through and soaked by the end  when we reached Deep Cove via Panorama (Drive).

I have walked, soaked up some sun, read and written on the beach (Ambleside), read the latest magazines that I was too cheap to actually buy myself and enjoyed the quiet at the West Van library- [there is nothing quite so cool and quiet to hide from the heat of the day and the noisiness of daily life than taking a comfy chair in the library- you should have seen the reaction of some of the seniors to the poor young woman whose cell phone went off somewhere deep withing her bag and her panic to find it, turn the offending musical ringer off  and return the peace of the room was pretty dramatic. I felt her embarrassment as she quietly left to answer the call.] and I have had the time to shop or browse more in the stores in North and West Van. to determine what I love and not merely like. It is so precious to have the time to do that kind of thinking before spending on items that I love (or of course are a great deal). I enjoyed the annual Family girls Weekend at the cabin but I can't tell you anything about it or I'd be in BIG trouble!!

My husband and I have just about re-claimed our garden which was suffering the effects of neglect and a long wet spring season. It was looking abandoned but I am happy to report that it is much improved now.

I have finally written my students thank-you cards and now need to get them in the mail!
I have created a math brochure for my students and parents and have even managed to do a bit of BTS shopping because I couldn't pass up the Teacher Appreciation Day at Staples ( now consider my last post!! oops, guess sometimes I am a hypocrite!)

Anyway, I really have to get back to my task at hand... there is a lot of summer left to enjoy. Hope you are all having a great summer of your own.
