Monday June 4th

Mondays.....Ah, Mondays....

Actually, today went by in the blink of an eye!! Before I knew it, the day was at a close!

Homework
a number of students have been notified about missing assignments that need to be completed and some have missed classes and need to get caught up (there are not many days left to get work done and handed in)
other than that though I have not set any brand new homework as I prefer to concentrate on the activities that students can get finished rather than piling on more!
Quick review Quiz for Math 7 (angles) tomorrow [6 questions about calculating missing angles]

Reminders
a newsletter went home today
14 students have entered the class spelling bee which will take place later this week
many students have shown interest in a year end trip to Playland and will be asking if you would be interested in joining us!! Probable date June 25th (Monday)

General Day
daily French

computers 9-9:30am for the Greek brochure research and preparation of the layout

Vocab-u-lous 'C' vocabulary dictionary activity (actually we will follow this up tomorrow as there was not enough time before Band class

Band

Math 7 follow up the quadrilateral angles activity from last class (360)
work on calculating angles in triangles (180)
introduce the concept of Pythagoras Theorem (a grade 8 learning outcome) just to familiarize students with the formula and show them how cool it is to use the square root button on their calculator :)

Silent reading
Ashley did a great job with Aaron and, Aaron, we were so proud of you today we didn't even remember you were in class with us you were so quiet and respectful during our quiet reading time.

Back to computers until 2:30pm allowing as much screen time as I can to get this activity (the Greek brochure) underway and I must say that it was well used time in the lab. The students quietly worked at their computers on the expected activity. What's not to like?

Back in class we did a 'puberty' crossword puzzle which reviewed all the vocab. we have covered in the unit on body health and science. It was kind of weird hearing the words shared around the class but students have become comfortable with them now and it is such a relief that they don't have to giggle and fall on the floor when we discuss and use the correct words.
We managed all the DOWN clues but need to follow up with the ACROSS another day! While they were working I returned their responses to the Peer Pressure activity last Thursday. Have approx. 6 still to receive (absences and not handed in/completed). The responses were fabulous and I really enjoyed reading them.

Student request:
Took the last part of the day to show the students sample Greek brochures from former classes (the students wanted to see what they looked like and luckily I had a selection of good, bad and ugly samples to show them).
The dismissal bell rang while we were sharing our thoughts and looking at the former student work.
See the day was one of the fastest Mondays ever.

More fun and excitement tomorrow!
Stay warm
Mrs. J.
