Monday, June 18th
Friday June 15th was our annual Sports Day and the gods were very generous with the weather (no rain, a bit of morning sunshine and afternoon windy but bearable!). We had a great day and for me it was a nice plus to get to meet some of our French Immersion students in the field day teams and 'pods'. Thank-you to the grade seven station assistants and to the general staff and PAC for creating and organizing a day of fun, fresh air and fitness. Thank-you to the students for taking part so intensely and supporting your team colours- there were some impressive colour supporters (to the point that the colours have still not faded from dyed hair!). WAY TO GO!!
Monday...
Well, here we go- the home stretch to the end of the school year. Some days can be a blur and other days a drag. Today was relatively 'blur-like'!! The children are restless! They seem to be on vibration mode!
No new homework
waiting for overdue Socials brochures and spend a million projects
Thanks Tesla and Cassidy for your work :)
Reminders for our busy week
Monday: presentation by MLA Joan McIntyre for the Playground grant ($50,000 for our school to upgrade the playground) WooHoo!
Tuesday: year end Band performances 11am for the school population and 1pm for the parents' performance
Thursday: Grade 7 tour Don Ross Secondary and will receive grade 8 timetables
Friday: Pancake breakfast 9am
Today's schedule
shared the Term 3 report card template with the students and over viewed the week ahead
Language Arts
Follow the Clues
playing with definitions and word puzzles. We worked together on a challenging word puzzle in which one word provides a definition for the next in the 'ladder'. Some students turned to a thesaurus to help their 'quest'
The high school VP dropped of some DRS school locker locks for us to practice on. A few years ago I made a poster for the process and I had the students try to follow the instructions without a lock first;. We will try the real thing throughout the next few hours and days.
Band
Math 7
Fractions adding and subtracting review and renew concepts and processes of adding and subtracting like denominator, different denominator and mixed numbers
Locker lock practice!!
I had practiced on a couple before class but in front of an audience I was unable to show the successful opening of a lock!!! Really!!
'Busted' for sure!
Silent reading (not so silent today)
Thanks to Gurpreet for working with Aaron
Personal Planning
the final part of the birth process lesson was covered today. The students had some interesting questions about multiple babies and twins in the womb. Today we 'walked' through labour, birth and after care.
Library returns
Please remember to bring in the books still at home for return this week (sooner the better!)
computers
some are ccompleting (slowly) outstanding work but the majority were provided with some free time which quickly became a little silly and loud (difficulty staying at their own computer screen) so we headed back to class
clean off desks and organize a class group game which once again didn't last too long before some students became too silly and unsafe to continue! Honestly- how can throwing a kush ball be made unsafe? By whipping it at a classmate who is not paying full attention to the throwing routine!
Saved by the bell for Dismissal!
Lord, it is only Monday!
Get a good sleep- busy music and performance day tomorrow! Remember instruments and music sheets if you took them home for practice!
More fun and excitement tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
