Sorry folks for the late post - I had a fitness class after school and was busy when I got home. Sometimes if I don't have the chance to do the blog right after school, I forget it!

Spelling practice
Persuasive writing style and structure
today was more of a discussion about how we convince people to agree with us. I found it interesting that when I was looking for words like 'appeal' and focus on the 'positive aspects' of your reasoning; the students were disagreeing with me and suggesting such teenage winning ways as being annoyingly persistent, whining and trying to play the guilt factor!! Wow!
We discussed the difference between a written 'persuasion' and a physical, verbal, body language persuasion but I don't think they're buying it! Very interesting- I have my work cur out for me apparently!
last couple of pages of our now completed class novel, Word Nerd. I always find it anti-climactic when we complete a story. However, the students were interested to know if the author had any more books (she does) and we used a Chapters search to find out what they were.
Band
Math 7
Pre-algebra (finding algebraic expressions in the language of problem solving)
The students told me I was over-explaining and asked me to 'settle down' (LOL out of the mouths of babes)
apparently they felt that I was making it confusing. So I listened and tried my best to not be an 'over explainer'- I appreciated the feedback and they agreed that today they found it much easier to follow YEAH!
We have been focusing on finding and solving expressions.
Silent reading
we were visited during out reading time by Mrs. McCullough, our new Superintendent, and Mrs. Beaubien, our re-elected trustee. I tired to show them the new digital overhead and was asked a few questions about it . I am embarrassed to say that they found out first hand much I still have to learn about using it!!
This afternoon some of our students made a presentation to the Board with Mrs. Paxton to describe and showcase Squamish Elementary. Mrs. Paxton reported that she was proud of them and the job they did and, even though she might be a little biased, she said our presentation was the BEST :)
French
L'histiore de Poutine: en francais a story about who and how the cultural 'dish' called poutine came to be nearly 60 years ago!! We reviewed the French questions to help us complete the activity after P. Ed.
Phys. Ed. Split gym- basketball fun games and a smaller game of floor hockey.
Back in class we used the time to complete the French activity answering questions about the story of the creation of "fries with an attitude": poutine.
The day disappeared fast.
Dismissal after a reminder about the spelling test tomorrow.
have a good what's left of the night!!
Mrs. J.
