Monday dark and dreary January 9th

I intend to keep the post quick tonight as I want to set up a new seating plan for tomorrow morning and find that it is easier to do it NOW!

Homework
List #4 spelling for study (test Thursday this week)
Advance on your socials project work- students are generally at the writing up their notes into paragraph stage and class time will be available but I want to see progress each day
Math 7 problem #6 to solve (majority managed to do it in class but if you didn't please try to complete it) for tomorrow's class
French fridge and Science power points are due this week preferable Tuesday/Wednesday
Reminders
If you were at Ski school today please know that you are responsible (as per any absence) to find out and catch up with what you missed in class today
A school newsletter was sent home today- please read and sign and return the bottom section if you would like an entry to 'pizza with the principal'

General Day
daily French (very basic) day, date and weather

spelling return spell test #3 (average mark 60% or 9 out of 15) this is not as good as usual and I have challenged the students to set aside specific study time for their spelling- these words may seem 'easy' relatively BUT they are on a spelling 'demons' list for a reason!
Analysis of the spelling rules for this week's list #4

Writing a good unified paragraph
instruction and  activity (follow up tomorrow)

Band

Math 7
  • corrected the second column of sample integer addition on w/s 4.2 started last Thursday
  •  went back to the first booklet to complete the 'magic' integer squares
  • we then undertook a mid-unit review (want to ensure mastery of addition before I introduce subtraction of integers tomorrow)
  • Once completed, we switched our papers and reviewed the correct answers. It seems (while informal) that most of the students achieved 20 marks or higher from a possible 25. I'm good with that :)
  • finally we worked on sample problem #6 from Friday which is one of those which requires a chart to be made and ticket totals to be added. Follow up Tuesday.
Silent Reading

Housekeeping
New Seating verified and agreed to (kind of...)
Date set for Class spelling Bee Monday Jan 16th in the afternoon to determine top three students for the competition in the gym on Thursday January 19th
Socials studies progress check

Computer and Library time 2:50-3:50 a double block today for research and independent work time.  believe most used the time provided (and the resources) wisely but honestly there are always a few who think that if I am not standing right over them that they can have carte blanche to do whatever they want (or simply just waste the time) Just saying...

Back in class review of homework, clean up desks, prep for dismissal
distribute newsletters- thanks, Brody.

Que tempus fugit!
Have a dry , warm evening.
Mrs. J.
