Friday's are a bit different from the rest of the week's daily structure and while I think the students enjoy the structural 'shake up', I know that I find it a bit more work whether to plan, prep or manage! I'm tired, so TGIF.
I was less distracted and distractible today you'll be happy to know.
Homework
Main area of focus is on advancing the work for the socials project- by early next week the research note taking sessions should give way to formulating the notes gathered into draft and then 'good' paragraphs.
I'd like to have the French activity (Mon Refrigerateur) completed early next week Monday/Tuesday -many have already completed it but a few have lost momentum and need a bit of a virtual 'kick'
That's all folks JUST DO IT :)
General Day
Spelling Test list #3
A&E presentation documentary about the Pyramids of Ancient Egypt and their remains to date which was interesting to start but did get a bit dry after 30 minutes. However, it did break the mummification process (and industry of Ancient Egypt) down into a step by step process. It also showed the engineering marvel that the Pyramids of Giza (and King Khufu's specifically) were and offered suggestions about how it was done in the days before heavy lifting cranes and equipment.
Computer Lab time to work on the Science activity "Virtual Pet" power point presentations- students who are completed had the chance to have a bit more time (30 minutes) for their socials work. Time was used wisely.
Math 7
corrected the worksheet that I had so much trouble with yesterday!! The way the boys expalined it to me yesterday was correct according to the teacher's manual so good job on their part :) Students seem to be confident with the addition process for Integers. YEAH! Nothing, appraently, to do with me! lol
Problem Solving Friday
Did a Think (on your own), Pair (with a partner), Share (class discussion about the correct answers in general) session with some sample multiple choice numeracy problems. We corrected them in class but I want to go over a few in more depth on Monday (# 3, 5 and 6)
It was neat to hear the students discuss all the different ideas that they had for solving the sample problems when the had the chance to discuss with a partner. The average is 3 correct out of 5 possible on these practices which FYI I do not count towards any 'grade'. They are simply for practice and discussion of how to solve and what skills are featured or needed for different samples.
Always on Fridays we switch to math games for the last 20-25 minutes (some students helped Ms. Sorban with a primary music class).
Silent Reading- How tired am I ? I managed to get mixed up when telling one of my students that the Hunger Games' novels were non-fiction!!! Oh good lord. Don't worry we got it sorted out thanks to Manisha and Roshni who had been teasing said student in the first place!
Complete the Egyptian Pyramids presentation (15 minutes)
French- fridges, art, science pamphlets and some note taking were all being worked on as I read a couple of chapters from our read aloud class novel , Word Nerd
We are now at chapter 19. (one student is getting so frustrated waiting for me to get through the story she 'borrowed it for the weekend'. I could have said "No" but why? I can't share it over the weekend and if a student is going to read it this weekend - why not?) Sarah- don't forget to bring it back on Monday
:)
Finally, we did some negotiating and bartering with a new seating plan for next week (we decided not to do it tonight but on Monday instead- at least I did) The student have been very involved in creating these plans and while it is very difficult to please everyone, we are doing our best to be both inclusive and mindful of the working environment that we need to 'beef up' in the coming weeks.
Clean up and prep for Dismissal
Have a good weekend
Mrs. J.
