One more sleep until the big band concert :)
We have a dress rehearsal first thing in the morning. Students will be helping to set up the gym from 8:30am. The morning session is a chance for the students to hear each other play and after recess we have the Winter Band Concert for all and any parents who can attend.
General Day
I had forgotten about popcorn day and students said they would have been interested if they had known so Merry Christmas class I bought the popcorn today for anyone who wanted a bag of popcorn. 21 bags of popcorn arrived at noon. Our thanks to the corn popping parents :)
After daily French we discussed the highlights of the ski trip and we took some time to complete Tuesday's journal entry (in which students had to decide which organizations to award a $$ gift) to that we added a brief account of their day skiing.
Before Band we had some time to get the French fridges completed
Band Grade 6/7
Math Jeopardy
Today we played a jeopardy game with questions from 5 different categories of our term 1 learning outcomes. The students were in teams of 4 and had interesting teams names such as the Equation Kings and the Simpsonz. Anyway by $50 with $1400 the GTL team won- congratulations. Closely followed by the JBL (don't ask about Justin Beiber) girls who scored $1350. I have never seen such competitive spirit in my girls. Yeah, you go girls.
It is a neat way to review. The students all answered questions today on BEDMAS, Exponents, everyday math, fractions, estimation and scientific notation.
Silent Reading- the rest of the Scholastic books arrived on time for the end of the school week :)
Chapter 13 of Word Nerd was read while we did some 'Christmassy' art.
I feel a bit behind on the class Xmas decor this year but no one has complained as a matter of fact the students were suggesting that we have a New Year celebration instead of a Christmas party and given how rushed everything is for me right now I think that is a neat idea. We still haven't even been able to squeeze in a half hour to watch the end of the movie we started last Friday!!
Phys Ed. was sweet in that instead of a half hour the students and I were able to stay in the gym for a whole hour. They throroughly enjoyed it too. We split the gym and had a game of floor hockey and a game of Basketball on the other side. The basket ball shots are getting much better and more accurate.I BANNED dribbling to encourage more passing to team members. They did a good job remembering to include all players.
Back in class, I finished the chapter of Word Nerd while students cleaned up and spent the last ten minutes seriously colouring the Xmas baubles.
Have a great evening. Remember black and white and red and green santa hats and looking smart for Band concert tomorrow.
