Novel reading and writing the rough draft of the Reader's Response #3
I was so impressed that the 30 minutes they had for the novel was so focused and quiet. They did an excellent job.

Band

Math 7
new index was distributed for the new month (I wrote up the last few days)
collected the p. 66 # 10-14 MathLinks 7 homework- quite a few had not completed it- I can only provide opportunity and assistance when it is requested. Student responsibility to their own learning is the key to success.
Worked in class on Scientific Notation worksheet (not for homework)
some students managed to get started on a challenging work sheet using the skills of BEDMAS (order of operations). I know that I haven't really prepared the students yet for the more challenging 'skill-testing' questions but it is good practice! (also not for homework)
Homework: to study for the dividing decimals Quiz tomorrow- I showed the students which worksheets the quiz questions were taken from- there will be nothing new on the test of skills everything that is on the quiz, we have completed in class this last two weeks.

Computers were available form 1-1:30pm. so we took the opportunity to word process our reader responses or at least get them started- there will be more time available tomorrow.

Silent Reading- took a long time to get everyone settled but I was finally able to get students reading (or busy with something other than yapping at each other!!)

Phys Ed.
we played a class game after a quick warm up- here is a quick question for those that might be interested. I asked the students to go quietly down the stairs to the gym and find a space by themselves before we started the activity because we always do a stretch and warm up before an activity.
How long do you think it took for the class to 'find a space by themself'?

Give up?

Don't really care? :)

10 minutes of our P.Ed. class!!!!!
But we finally managed to do the necessary 'warm up' and began a game of Bowling for Skittles (a tag game with the goal of knocking over the other team's skittles) We managed two rounds of the game before the other class was there to claim their gym time!!! 30 minutes can go very quickly when we are wasting time being chatty and silly! It was like watching puppies rolling all over!!

Back in class I managed to re-claim some time with the students cooperation and get a decent introduction to our Personal Planning program which we have completed a couple of classes for so far this year.
I distributed and quickly introduced the students to the general topics that the Teenage Survival Handbook  addresses ( it is a resource that is available widely in the community (doctor's offices) and is a free resource sent to schools). I have enough to send one home with every student but it was amusing tonight to watch my students do their utmost best NOT to take one home!! There were a few nervous giggles which is normal. I'll keep you informed about the topics we are covering and perhaps it will provide you a chance to ask or talk to your son or daughter.
We will be starting on the topic of Peer Pressure as of tomorrow.

Homework, reminders, clean up and chairs up before dismissal.
Have a warm and dry evening- it is pouring out there and I am surprised how dark it is tonight.
Mrs. J.
