Wednesday Oct 26th

Boy, I feel wiped out today- maybe the change of weather?

Productive day and much less 'drama' which I much appreciated. Blood pressure normal! :)

Homework and Reminders
Math 7 complete the arithmetic puzzle page (most did in class)
Math 6 complete the worksheet for exploring multiples (unit2)
Spelling test tomorrow morning Unit #5 (redo #4)
rough copy of Reader's response #2 (we started it in class)

Halloween dance Friday night $5+ concession grade4-7
Monday costumes welcome as per the school newsletter (appropriate, safe and able to be worn during class work)

General Day
Daily French : matin, l'apres midi, soir, nuit
discussed briefly the need for students to be mindful of their morning attention as some are not fully participating or even looking at the daily high frequency French words and phrases. After a couple of months they should be confident translating into English and able to pronounce t he French words.

Spelling study time for list #5 and reminder about redoing the #4 list for those who are willing and able!

10 minute Visit about Halloween safety from our RCMP liason officer Constable Zonderland. Discussed general safety and things to be aware of and look out for regarding Monday night's 'trick or treating'.
The students were very attentive :)

Novel distributed the guide questions for the Ch 11-15 as discussed yesterday and the students started on their second Reader's Response. We will continue tomorrow but I would like the rough ideas of their responses to be completed tonight.

Band

Math 7
Yeah- a very productive class.
It makes a huge difference to everyone's comfort!
Today we followed up on the examples of decimal division set for homework. There are a few students whose confidence is being shaken by the requirements for division. Every arithmetic skill is needed to be successful in the traditional algorithm. I have suggested that students keep trying (not too many at once) but maybe even one each evening until they 'burn' the steps into the storage part of their brain (hippocampus).
Students seem afraid of bigger numbers - we need to get them to see it as breaking big numbers apart into 'bite-sized' pieces!
We also managed to (most did) complete an arithmetic puzzle using sum, difference, product and quotient skills as well as finding averages and using exponenets so a bit of a review of skills puzzle- they did a great job. :)

Silent Reading
good job today. I think they just needed some down time!

Socials
Archaeology - connects to the novel and to social studies. The tools, technology, methods and reasons for the preservastion of artifacts.
Activity: using some clues and grid coordinates, the students had to sketch and make reaasonable predictions about what the 'site' that we are 'virtually' excavating might have been.

Physical Education
Bowling for Skittles - (gator balls) a kind of 'double dip' bowling game where opponents can be tagged out to make a clearance for getting the bowling pins knocked over :) If the person who tagged you out gets hit you are back in the game so it adds a level of observation to the game- students have to be aware and ready at all times to return to the game.

Art not much time left but we are continuing to move forward with the French thematic posters and haunted houses :) Some student are still finishing up their name acrostics too. Lots of activity- just need to keep movement forward as some are beginning to 'zone' out!

Clean up, chairs, planners and homework collection- especially spelling lists...
Dismissal
Have a warm and dry evening. :)
Mrs. J.
