General Day
Spelling activity time was more than 5 minutes today as many of the students needed some more time for the dictionary and novel work that was needed to complete Spelling Activity #4

It was serendipity today when we had a quick visit from Ms. Ross (VP at Don Ross Secondary). She confirmed for the students that it really was VERY important to 'claim' work with a name and date and block number as next year they will be one of approximately 75-80 students that go through a high school classroom a day. Thank-you :) I encouraged my students who think I am using 'scare tactics' this year when I mention the skills they need for high school to ask any questions they wanted BUT they suddenly became very shy and I think realized I am not making things up!

Socials: Stonehenge- factual/content reading, reasoning and thinking
Venn Diagram of the information that is different and similar in a 1992 resource and a 2003 Sympatico article about the ancient site in England. The intention is to show (read) and determine facts that will always remain the same and those that can alter over time. It is quite interesting that with new technologies scientists have discovered that the blue stones at Stonehenge, which seemed to be a second period of construction in 1500BCE, may have come from a 'mini Stonehenge refered to as Bluehenge which was located on the River Avon about 3km from the original site. They have suggested a more interrelated connection between the sites and suggest it was once part of a 'funeral complex'. Ask and see if your darling son or daughter can tell you any more about the site.

Math 7
Quiz #2 multiplying decimals and whole numbers
Most of the students made easy work of this quiz- only a couple seem to need to put in some more time on the concept of placing a decimal point!
Review of factors, multiples, lowest common multiples, prime numbers and factor trees- follow up tomorrow.
Answer to yesterday's problem was:
there are 7 different amounts that 12 coins can add up to using more dimes than nickles and more nickles than pennies.

silent reading
allowed some reading time for students who were needing some assistance with math or other activites. It is a quiet class time and while I don't want to encourage 'stealing' reading time, it does give me the chance to catch up with some students.
Thank-you to the volunteers who asssited Mrs. Kelly-Smith. She said to let you know you were wonderful :)

French- daily French translation and pronunciation today- review of all the 'high traffic' words that we are using on a daily basis. Translations were generally very good :) Also introduced the Parts of the House (les parties da la maison) and Halloween (L'halloween) vocabulary for another art/French project called La Maison Hauntee.

Phys. Ed. Team tag games. We tried two different games with the same outcome- sorry- lots of whining about the 'cheaters'! At least we ran around outside, managed to get some Vitamin D, learned that playing girls against the boys (with a couple of boys on the team to even numbers) is not a good scenario and no one was hurt (well maybe a few feelings- like mine! But don't worry, I'll get over it :) lol
I'll stick to volleyball and organized games :) Thanks anyway :)

Back in class, after reviewing the P.Ed. session and allowing some 'venting', we decided which French project we were most interested in so I could get a handle on the resources that I need to prep for it to go ahead.

Planners, reminders, clean up and prep for home. Good luck in the volleyball game tonight girls.
Until tomorrow- can't wait!!
Mrs. J.
