It was our 'Twins' spirit day at SES today. There were some clever dress ups/costumes. Of course one 'set' came as triplets in feathers boas which molted all over the school wherever they went :) and those who came without dressing up did some last minute fixes like wearing the same colored shoes or fixing their hair to look the same!
Day 2 with fabulous sunshine - we will remember the sun when the rain sets in - enjoy

Math 7: Problem Solving Friday
First we updated the index of contents- we got a little behind with it this week
Today's problem
Parent drivers are needed to help transport students to camp. Thanks to our parent drivers, at our disposal is a van that holds 7 students, a car that holds 4 and a truck that holds 3. If we have 28 students to transport, can you find ALL the possibilities of (or all the different ways that) students could be transported in fully loaded vehicles.
Follow up on the solution Monday's class.
The second half hour of Math was given over to assisting the K/1 music class with Ms. Sorban and the students who volunteered really enjoyed the break as well as the games that they had to take part in partnered up with the K/1's. They were excited when they came back to class to tell me all about it.
Students who chose not to assist stayed in class and we did some card and domino games- one partnership played checkers and it was quite the 'contentious' game. Glad it wasn't chess because we'd still be there!
It was a different kind of Friday Math class so we decided to postpone the Monday quiz until we can all get a handle on what is going to be on the quiz for study purposes! No quiz Monday- huge cheer!
Silent Reading
Organization 101 oh me oh my - this is honestly needed but I dread it because have you ever tried to get 27 students to follow directions and clean out their desks at the same time?? It is an overwhelming sea of binders and papers and books and chatting and questions and running the hole punch around or finding whose whatsit is being trod on on the floor or whose is stuck to the counter with a melted crayon (or leftover lunch stuff!) Phew.
I sometimes wonder if Monday would be a better day to get everything organized. There is nothing more frustrating than three or more students who can't find, have lost, recycled, stuffed and or eaten their papers, assignments, activities when you need to continue or follow up an activity.
Art
Acrostic adjectives decribing pesonalities using the letters of student names still on-going. Noisy class...was a bit of a losing battle trying to get students to realize they were yelling at each other as the noise level increased, so did voices! Sheesh, then there's me adding to the din- thank goodness for the sound system
Last 20 minutes of the day we headed to the computers for some promised 'free' time- some students worked on their language arts and webs but most took advantage of the 'free' time to get on-line and play some web games/activites. A popular one seems to be the science game especially the one where they virtually mix chemicals that blow up and cause virtual melt down fires- gald I don't have a bunsen burner in class :)
Wow, that was the week. Hope the good weather holds for the soccer games tomorrow. See you at the fields tomorrow. Have a good one and I'll see everyone Monday.
Mrs. J.
