Friday is a Pro-D day no school for the students
Next monday 26th is the band night if you need to redo the rental agreements or for first time instrument rentals

Planner $$ and supplies asap- I have been supplying students with no or limited supplies in order to get the year's learning program under way

General Day
Seemed very busy

Began the day with a new seating plan and moved our supply bins to their new 'homes'.
Next we bagan to find homes for all the 'homeless' papers that were accumulating in desks- today we used the dividers and found safe places for everything to reside.

I provided each student with a two-pocket folder to keep in his/her desk for those papers that are not three hole punched (like the Art booklet) and for those which perhaps a student isn't sure where it would be placed. That way papers and work is not being crunched in desks and everyone knows where to find them.
Binders and dividers had to be supplied for approx. 6 students.

We are all organized now and I am proud to say that we have managed to make a start on every curricular area for the year. We have ten areas to accommodate in our weekly schedule and some will be cross-curricular (like art): Language arts, French, Socials, Science, computer skills (on-line learning), Math, Personal Planning (also referred to currently as Health and Career), Art, Band (music) and Physical Education. Schedule to come soon.

Socials studies- today we looked at the respective first chapters of the socials texts
Grade 6 Global Citizens and Grade 7 Ancient Worlds
We learned the acronym THIEVES today and used it to find inormation from the content area texts.
It is a reading strategy that reminds students that in factual content reading their are many ways to find and receive information.
T title(s), H headings (subtitles), I Introduction, E every first sentence (main idea), V visuals ( & vocabulary), E end of chapter (unit) questions and S summary
Students will complete the activity tomorrow.

Math 7
This hour is over before I know it...busy class with 30 bodies...we need to work together on a method for assisting one another. I still have to get those Learning Styles numbers- no time today.
Rounding numbers booklet was today's review instruction and students did very well with the activites.
basically: If 4 or less in the previous digit do not round up but 5 or more round up +1. We looked at the process for whole numbers today and tomorrow we will look at the same process for decimal numbers.
Most students were close to completion in class :)

Silent reading

French Combien de (how many?)...Salle de Classe (classroom words)  et numeros- counting- triple play en francais :)

Phys. Ed. Soccer 5 on 5 and the rest of class California Kickball- back field- nice to have the weather to do it- I enjoyed the good sportsmanship and it seemed like most had fun- some ankle issues which could be due to shoes- please remember that proper footwear for safe physical actrivity is a necessity especially on the local fields.

Being outside (not in the gym) allowed us about ten extra minutes outside :) SHhhhhh! However, I guess we'd better enjoy that freedom while we can as soon...well, you know! Wet Coast.

Back in class we reviewed how much we have accomplished in the last two weeks together. Students had time to write in their planners and get organized for home.

See everyone tomorrow. Be safe and have a good evening. Mrs. J.
