Wednesday June 22nd

Having made it through Wednesday, I feel grateful that we have 'plans' for Thursday and Friday as that will make the week a  bit more 'grounded'.

No Homework

Reminders
tomorrow, June 23rd we will be eating our lunch early and heading to Don Ross to meet all the other grade seven students and taking part in a meet and greet at the high school. We will be back in time for dismissal and maybe even have a bit of time to practice the locker locks and combinations.

Friday, June 24th we are leaving at 9am for the water slides in Tsawassen. Being a Friday (city traffic) we will probably not return until 6:30pm
NEED to bring: swim gear, towel or two, sunscreen, hat, water bottle, snack or $$ for the concession, change of clothing and a cover up (I have ordered sunshine!)
Most importantly: a positive and friendly attitude for each other, the driver of our bus, our parent volunteers and the park staff- let's all have a great day and make our school and community proud of us as ambassadors :)

General Day
Students worked diligently (well most did) and some even completed their Spend a Million posters- it is so interesting to see the kinds of things that they have chosen for their projects and how proud they were to have money 'left over' :) I don't have the heart to tell them about job security, cost of living and taxes right now. They can dream can't they...reality bites!

Thanks to Nav, Ashleigh and Brooke for completing the awards day address to the parents and staff- I will proofread it tonight :)
Thanks to Lexie for downloading all the camp photos and Saleena for linking all the shots in Windows Movie Maker- we just have to add some music and it is a wrap- great job. Merci.

After snack we discussed the 5x8 linear timetable at high school, how to open a school issued lock for the lockers, what type of rotations they will be undertaking for 8 weeks each (40 school weeks, 5 rotation themes) and answered general questions about using lockers as opposed to desks- getting organized and ready for the first week. They will get more information tomorrow perhaps but the "Rally" is more to meet the other students and get a tour of the school. Last year we picked up timetables and locker locks for practice so maybe it will be the same this year.

Computer time for a half hour either for completion of research for the project or (for those complete already) free time :)

DEAR time has become very chatty! I was part of the problem trying to explain windows movie maker to someone who knew more than I did about its features. LOL

Drama 8 is an option next year so for a half hour I introduced some junior high drama games and they didn't do too badly except that they are all vying for attention and audience skills are at an all time low!!
We did First Lines...where two students are set up at a 'table' in a 'restaurant' and they have to begin the interaction before the waiter arrives with a set 'First Line" like:
"Please don't ever tell anybody else this but..." or
" I am sick and tired of your prejudiced remarks..." or
" I'll give you three guesses as to how it happened"
The skits are meant to have a middle and a conclusion.
Endings needed to be directed but we managed to get through four different skits (using four or five actors each)
I don't know why I am always surprised when students turn things into innuendo. I can get easily taken off guard by this age group as they seem so young and yet things that are front and centre in their creative ideas are very often sexual in nature- today topics in the skits covered:  pregnancy, gay right to marriage, keeping an affair secret and complaining about the service in the restaurant!

Last hour of the day I emptied the freezie box (had enough left for one each) as we divided the class into two teams for California Kickball- the wind was so strong we had to use a soccer ball instead of the BIG rubber one. One team dominated but everyone was good natured about it as it really was meant to be fun outside in the fresh air. I think everyone was pretty happy with the experience!

Until tomorrow...
Mrs J.

  1. Hi Selene,
Looking forward to seeing the shots from camp once they are up and running.
Sounds like things are wrapping up for the year, and hope the meet and greet at the High School went well.
Hope every one, you included, have a blast at the water slides and hoping you get good weather to enjoy too. A little jealous, as we are melting out here in Ontario, and I am in need of a swimming pool. lol. Dave isn't going for it yet, but I will keep trying. You never know, I might wear him down one of these years.
Thanks for picking up M&D when they arrive. Think they enjoyed themselves and thankfully the weather cooperated.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
    Diane. :D
