Monday June 27th

Three days left....before the summer vacation. Lots of things still to do...

This morning we worked on a few of those team/cooperative games that have the students work together to decide on certain things like order of a Whodunit story plot and what they might need if the were 'Lost In the Arctic'. The survival game had the students rank 15 items that they had in a survival kit from most to least useful. First they were supposed to do it individually but that turned into a big partner discussion so I organized five groups of 5 and they went right into teams to finalize the rankings. Three teams had approx three of the top 5 items (I guess they must watch Les Stroud on Survivorman) and most teams had the bottom three correct. The top five items were
  1. 12 wooden matches in a waterproof metal screw top container
  2. hand axe
  3. down filled and lined sleeping bags one per member
  4. 80m of braided nylon rope (25kg test)
  5. 1 litre of maple syrup!
The next game was a 'confused plot' in which the story details were all muddled up and the teams had to put the story into the correct order to solve the whodunit- two of five teams managed to get the plot approx 90% accurate with just a couple of details out of place.

Next I handed the students the high school locker locks for them to practice and help each other with the skill of turning the dial the correct way to open them. They'll need to master it by the fall. Some had real difficulty- I suggest buying one to practice on during the summer months- honestly- it is one less thing you'll need to worry about for the new school year and knowing before you go will keep you on time for classes!!

Before lunch I handed out the Gr8 timetables and their Grade 7 Term 3 grades and final marks for elementary school.
Excitement was growing before the assembly- lunch time was spent in choir practice and the girls prettied themselves up during the break. They all looked lovely :)

Today we had our grade seven farewell assembly at 1pm. The students were really excited and those that had a part in it, did a fabulous job.
Mrs. Paxton organized the assembly and had two grade six students step up to MC. They did a great job.
Staff and parents alike were happy with the inclusion of all the staff and students and with the shorter version of the presentations. The students handled themselves very well- all our students from K-7. It's always difficult to ask little ones to sit so still at the end of the year. Actually that they could, is a testimony to our staff and assembly expectations throughout the year.
The address to the staff by Nav, Brooke and Ashleigh was delivered well, the choir and singers sounded beautiful and Mrs. Lapointe made a slide show juxtaposing the kindergarten pictures against the grown up version of all the students who laughed and clapped at their Kindie pictures! So cute....what happened? LOL

Congratulations to the recipients of the top four awards Callista and Navdeep Top Athletic Male and Female, Callista top Academic and Ashleigh top Leadership.

Then it was time for the instruments to be returned and/or rented over the summer. Tom Lee company came to the school this afternoon.
For the last 40 minutes of the day we went to the gym and did an activity split- floor hockey and parachute.

Tomorrow we will start with the book return and clean up of our desks and classroom.
Can't wait!!!
Have a great evening. I have to stuff some report card envelopes now!!
Mrs. J.
