June 17th Sports Day at Squamish Elementary

After all the sleepless nights, and nearly being late this morning because I was filling water balloons(!!!), I was very proud of the 26 grade seven students who rose to a very big challenge and did an amazing job of this year's sports day. All the staff at the school commended them on their leadership and successful planning and organization of sports day- I am so proud of them and I know that they are very proud of themselves.

The weather was perfect - no rain- overcast and warm but with a refreshing wind- it couldn't have worked out better. Merci to the weather gods looking out for us. Our rain out day had the sports day schedule for next Tuesday but a middle of the week sports day is difficult to recover from and it makes the week VERRRRYY long or very loooooonnggg.

I had to smile when a couple of my students shared this observation...
" Not all these kids listen so well"
Me: "Uh huh"
"Some were climbing the fence when I was giving instructions"
Me: "Really?"
" I have a headache"
Me: "Make sure you drink lots of water. There are three more rotations to go" :):):):):):):)

We started the procedings at 9:25am and completed 10 stations in the morning, had lunch and ran races in the afternoon finishing with the popular tug o' war. We finished just after 2pm. For the last hour we ran a movie in the gym to allow them some down time before dismissal.

My thanks to everyone students and colleagues who helped with scheduling, field maps, equipment, set up, organizing the races and tug o' war. I always feel a relief when sports day is over.

Way to go. Have a well deserved rest this weekend. See everyone on Monday.
Remember the Splashdown Park forms and payment.

((((hugs))))
