Friday, June 10th

Getting a quick start to today's post as the students and I are finishing our Friday at the computer lab.
I would have to say they are in need (as am I) of a good rest this weekend as the tiredness (exertion?) of the two day camp that began our week has crept up with us all a little more each day!

Homework
The only thing I have asked is for the students to practice the work on adding fractions- today I gave them the answers to yesterday's worksheet (as promised) so now that they know what the answers are, I wanted them to correct any that were wrong and/or practice finding those answers on the questions that they did not do.

Oops started it too late! Have to dismiss them- time out - more later

General Day
DPA played a rousing couple of games of 'Benchball' - one of them was an 'elimination' only round and I have neven seen so many inventive ways of 'cheating' even after they learned at camp that 'cheating is evil'!!!

Journal activity for the year end- I always find that my students are closer to the pulse of all that is important and I find that getting their input at this point in the year is both helpful and accurate. Today's writing activity asked them to reflect on their year at Squamish Elementary recounting all the programs and activities they participated in both during the school day and extra-curricularly. Then they had to nominate others by their service and skills for different recognition. I always finish with what I call the 'sillies' as I enjoy awarding the Silly Cwertificates of Dubious Honour on the last day of school just for fun. The students usually have great ideas for those awards and it helps my tired brain to focus on less serious skills and abilities like : best bed head on a picture day or best bathroom escape from class etc.

Science: completed the next section of Chapter 5 regarding solutions and mechanical mixtures.
We learned to classify mixtures as heterogeneous mixtures or solutions. We learned that mechanical mixtures can be ordinary mechanical mixtures (visible different types of matter), suspensions or emulsions.

DEAR time- took the opportunity to distribute to all students a copy of the math adding fractions worksheet answers. Have encouraged reading, some math practice and completion of the science worksheet from this morning's lesson in text Science 7.

All students who paid for their group photos that took place yesterday received their pictures today. Thanks for the prompt payment. The pictures look amazing.

Personal Planning: Yes, I know that I was pressing my 'luck' on a Friday afternoon BUT I decided to go ahead and get the Stages of Pregnancy and the Birth Process wrapped up this afternoon. And, guess what... we did it :) Yeah for us...
Quick lead through instruction using the amazing pictures from Time Life and then had the students ask their questions which were fabulous and releveant (and, yes, there are always a few who have a difficult time with the subject and the thought of all that humanity but they weathered through it just fine). We completed a couple of review type sheets using word banks and asking the students to identify the main phases of the creation of a new life and BINGABANGBINGABOOM it was time for computers!!!

Computer Lab free time for all those who had completed the expected activities (poems and a couple had an extension for socials) Only had to re-direct a couple of students but for the most part it was a very pleasant way to finish the week. I even got a start on the Blog.

Dismissal 3pm
have a great weekend and think of me starting the year end report cards
One thing I completely FORGOT to do today was hand out the permission slips for the waterslide fieldtrip- Monday for sure. Ask for it from you darling daughter or son.
See everyone Monday
Mrs. J.
