How sad, embarrassing and reckless.
We try to teach the concept of sportsmanship to children and then we witness a riot , violence, looting and destruction in the city of Vancouver apparently due to the loss of a hockey game! Really?
What do our children learn from watching the reaction of these so-called hockey fans? How many of my students, from the realtive safety of our small town of Squamish, will think this is the way people behave?
I am embarrassed and ashamed of and for the people in the city of Vancouver who are there not leaving the downtown core, taunting the police and genrally being moronic idiots. Go home already!
What a sad and disappointing way for the excitement of the hockey series to finish, How will I manage to discuss this with my students tomorrow? I can't ignore it.
Congratulations to the Boston Bruins who won game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals 4-0. They outplayed and outscored the Vancouver Canucks and, to give credit where it is due, they deserved the win. I feel so sad for the Vancouver players and shed a tear or two but I have more of a heavy heart for the
black eye Vancouver has just earned itself in the national and international community.
If anyone ever whines again that Vancouver is not a party-friendly city, remember that we have a core of anarchists and criminals who can't handle or behave themselves to deserve any kind of group gathering. How completely different from the Olympic experience.
Go, Vancouver police, go- I hope all your training and preparation can meet the demands of the drunken morons of Vancouver. I hope all your efforts to keep our city and people as safe as possible be worth the long night you will have to put in. May you be safe from injury and when it is all over, I hope you can be proud of your efforts and sleep well. My heart goes out to the men and women in Blue who find themselves on the front line of a riot squad.
Hi Selene,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. Wholeheartedly agree with your comments and hope the lesson plan discussing this with the kids goes well. Hope they understand the seriousness of the situation for the city, the people and sporting venues being held there.
Totally agree with your comments about the Police, and I sincerely hope they all made it home safe last night.
Thanks again,
Diane.
