Had to cancel the Track and Field Meet in Whistler today due to the inclement weather- it is too wet to run.

Homework
Same old...
Socials- travelogue
Science- Ch4 review
Reminders
Camp permission forms went home today to students who have returned their commitment forms- there are still 5 students who need to retrurn the commitment form before they can be officially added to the camp roster.
Permission forms and medical information is due with payment by June 1st next Wednesday. Our Camp dates at Evan's Lake are June 6th and 7th.

UBC researchers will be at the school on June 8th- students who have not yet returned forms still have a chance to take part BUT will not be able to if the forms (6 to get) are not returned to school!

General Day
Gave out forms for camp first thing this morning

We worked on the "Dumb and Dumber" poem format first introduced yesterday and a few students managed to create some very effective poems.

Band

Math- started the fractions unit- challenging class considering we were working on a review unit from the JUMP math program (Grade 5/6) identifying and recognizing fractions. The next set of examples were adding and subtracting with the same denominator and for the last set, adding and subtracting using a mixed denominator and using multiplication to find a common denominator.
[thought we'd be able to fit in computer time too but time was needed for math- interruptions abound! Then they wonder why they don't 'get' it!!]

DEAR time a bit better today although for some students it takes a long time for them to calm down and recover from the hyper active lunch break and they have real difficulty settling. However, I was able to 'tutor' some math and do the individual vote count for the movie.

TREAT time: Since the beginning of term 3 after the last reporting session, I challenged the students to catch me out in my 'flubs' and flops' especially in Math. We called it BUSTED points- if the student caught any errors and could correct them, they got a point. We agreed to 25 for a hot chocolate that I had to make everyone or 50 for a movie or 75 for an afternoon field trip. The points are at 63 and it might be getting too late for a field trip 'treat' so, today the students voted to 'cash' in 50 for a movie which leaves 13 Busted points and with two weeks to go it is entirely possible that there will be another 'treat' in store for the class before the end of June!
The students chose Eragon- the fantasy story about the young man who find himself in charge of a dragon-egg. It is the first of a four story series written by Christopher Paolini who was actually 15 when he first started to write the story.
I'm not too sure if everyone enjoyed it.

We ran the movie to the end of classtime at 3pm but it is not quite complete (may complete it tomorrow depending on time and 'will')
Dismissal
See everyone Friday.
Mrs. J.
