Thursday February 24th

Quick one until I get a chance later tonight.

 I have yet another after school meeting at the other end of town and I am already late so just homework for right now :)

Homework
 there is NOTHING NEW
however, there are still a number of students who have science work that is not completed for chapter 7 that is overdue: see Blog earlier this week for the booklet topics (thanks to those who used the time this week to get caught up to date)
other than that the spelling activities for Units 16-19
Heads up
Next week is marks cut off (or assignment cut off) for activities that are assessed for the Term 2 report card. The term 2 report is due into the office on March 7th for Mrs. Paxton's perusal- the students will receive their reports March 14th

More later- gotta run...

General Day ( it's now 6pm) hello again!

Brief phrase francais: Reviewing the avior verb constructs and the vocabulary for warm clothing given the bad weather: C'est tres froid, n'est ce pas? Avez-vous les vetements chaud?
Example: des gants, des bottes, un manteau, une echarpe etc.

I read the next chapter of the novel, DGC, Chapter 8 was , well, to be honest, forgettable...let me see...Violet had to apologize to her father for the 'poo incident' with her baby step-sisters and she answered him using the answers that came uo on her Magic 8-ball. As a class we have agreed that after one more chapter (that would put us about a third of the way into the story) we will make a class decision about whether or not we will continue.

While I read, I encouraged the students to use the time to complete their incomplete spelling activities OR study for ther spelling test for Unit 19.

Next up Unit 19 spelling test

Band class

Art: we have lost a bit of art time as it tends to get squeezed out at the end of the day especially when we have P.Ed. last block. So we made a class desicion to incorporate an hour of art time 11-12 noon and I must say it was very productive. Our school art show is in a couple of weeks now so it is really nice to see some pieces get finished. I am happy to report that breaking out the paint and brushes was not as painful as it can be (has been in the past)!! I enjoyed seeing the students creative efforts that sometimes really just need time to be discovered or practised. Some of the rotation pieces are very creative and the landscapes are effective (a few are very effective when you see them from a bit of a distance as the colours blend together close up).

1-2pm HSSS Jazz Band and Choir performance
Our choir members joined the HSSS choir for three of the songs and were AWESOME! Ms. Sorban directed the band and choir and Mrs. Koop accompanied them on the piano. WOW. I was sitting next to one of the younger students who was just bopping along to the music enjoying everything- many of our students were very inspired by the performance and it was truly a treat to see so many of our past alumni back to entertain us. So proud of them all.

2-2:30 DEAR time. Surprisingly good today- I suggested SRA cards or science or independent reading and was very impressed that they were able (most!) to settle down into a quiet activity. That allowed me a chance to get the remaining  FSA sections done that were missing due to so many students being away ill in the past few weeks.

2:30- 2:50 We finsished the day with a brain exercise left/right called wordles and once the students 'caught on' I think they really enjoyed the puzzles which used visual placement and plays on word sounds to be solved. Example:
mce mce mce = three blind mice (no eyes i's) :)
RO10X = rotten eggs
KDI = mixed up kid
one more...wheather...(this is my favourite) a bad spell of weather ! lol
The students ASKED if we could do some more tomorrow :)

3pm dismissal
It was a different day and lots of fun. The boys have a basketball game at home after school tonight but I had to run to a meeting so I hope they did as well as they have in all other games this year.
I'll find out tomorrow. I have every confidence that they will play their hearts out as this is the last game this year.
See everyone tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
