PJ day Friday Jan 21st

I am getting a rare opportunity to post the blog a bit ahead of the end of the school day- my students and I are at the lab and they have earned themselves some free time- so I thought I'd see if I could complete the blog at the lab. :)
FYI today was the first day (or maybe the second day that we have had everyone here since the start of the 2011 part of the school year.

Congratulations to 'our' Ashleigh G. who won the intermediate spelling bee this afternoon. 27 students took part and she won the right to represent our school at the next level in Vancouver after an oral pre-test. Way to go, Ashleigh. And congratulations go out to all my grade sevens who worked hard to prepare for the Bee in the last couple of weeks.

Homework
Nothing New this weekend
the only request is that the students who have not yet handed in their reports- Quin, Tracy and Trixton get them completed this weekend.

Reminder to send back the UBC field trip form with $5 for the bus - thanks

General Day
started with a rousing game of dodge basketball- the half hour in the gym went very quickly!!

continued with the next character of Word Nerd we were all laughing by the end of chapter 10 and the students wanted the next chapter but I say it is always good to leave them wanting more...

Unit 13 for catch up or redo.

Science Ch 7 work on the rock formation and characteristics

Math- review test for integers- for the test I copied the class work we did yesterday and the quiz consisted of ALL THE SAME questions that we did together yesterday SO everyone had the chance to do well if they followed class yesterday and studied from the pre-test last night!!!!!

DEAR time OR study for spelling Bee or complete science work quietly

At 10 to lunch we decided to have another mini-bee in class for the students who are now very nervous about this afternoon

!-2pm Annual Spelling Bee in the gym
27 participants. It came down to four girls in the final and then there were two Ashleigh (gr7) and Atheena (Gr4). It was intense. Congratulations to both of them for holding the nerves together. I think Ashleigh is still in a bit of shock that she won!

Back to class for clean up and weekend organization and then here we are now at the computer lab and everyone (including me ) is enjoying a bit of 'free' time.
Soon it will be 3pm dismissal and we will be 'free' for the weekend.

Have a great weekend - it is supposed to be SUNNY!!
I'm off to Vancouver for a ladies' bonspeil (curling competition with 32 teams) I curl tonight at 9:15pm. Send me luck and good vibes.
See everyone on Monday.
Mrs. J.
