The students are vibrating... with anticipation of the last full week of school and summer on the horizon!!
We thought about the whole 'picnic' idea which was scheduled for tomorrow and after sleeping on it- the majority of students re-voted to do it on Monday June 28th - the last full day of school before the awards ceremony.
Wednesday we have voted on a class movie and two will be brought tomorrow so we will have one for default as the students are quite forgetful lately!
The class voted for Hancock, the Will Smith movie about turning a bad super hero good or The Blind Side, the Oscar winning true story of a football player called Michael Ohr.
I will still bring the sausage rolls and watermelon tomorrow and let the students get themselves organized for lunch sharing on Monday 28th (with your help of course).
Mrs Jennings has offered a cake for Monday too- thank-you.
Reminders about a couple of grad hoodies still remaining (Zack P., Natalie and ZackE.), $2 for grad pictures, 2 students have to bring notes for DRSS trip Thursday Zack E. and Chris) and I'll be collecting $2 for Flapjacks on Friday.
General Day
computers Part 4 of Consuming Kids (You Tube).
Today section analyzed the exploitation of turning kids into mini-me adults, the higher pricing for and the more adult nature of children's 'toys'. The explosion of designer brand names for children's clothing and accessories and the impact of adult technology in i-pods and cell phones for childern was eye-opening. These market driven trends conspire to take away children's childhood. In one clip an advertising executive actually says to a group of industry specialists that it is okay if anti-social behaviour results in 'clients' as long as they make a sale. The push is for children to develop what they call cradle to grave brand loyalty!!
some free time for games
Planning the speech on behalf of the students - class vote charged Emily and Chris with representing them in a farewell speech. Class meeting in which we discussed a change to the lunch plans for tomorrow.
recess/snack
Completion of a Memories page to assist our speech makers with the events and memories that would like included in the year end speech.
Improvisational drama- we tried the resturant skit idea again but it wasn't as successful as the first time!!
DEAR time (we voted for the movie for tomorrow)
P Ed. today we joined Mr. Parker's class for a giant outdoor game of Fort Knox and the student combined their P.Ed. time. We played class vs. class and despite the whining about who was cheating, they ran themselves silly and it was fun to watch and try to referee!!
Once back inside - after drinks and clean up- we played a class game of Hangman for 15 minutes before the dismissal bell.
Another day bites the dust!!! How many more? :)
See everyone tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
