General Day Friday

started with a DPA session in which the students requested Dr Dodge Ball. They plyed well enough...it was just that I felt that the 'play' was becoming a bit rough. The students assured me that they wanted to continue with the game so we tried (attempted) to limit the unnecessary 'whipping' of the dodge balls.

Back in class, we completed a Ch 4 Science review open-book and the students worked very well and were focussed on demonstrating their use of the content area text to find the big ideas that we have been working on regarding matter, its changes and methods of measuring it. Great job.
Many completed it in 40 minutes- others need a bit more time!

After recess & snack I provided some more time for science and then we studied for our Math review- a one-page review of the concepts that we have been working on in Math this week- Mean, Median, Mode and Range including outliers. The test was distributed and most made light work of it which is great to see.

Before lunch I asked the students to chose their top three book chioces from the May/June TRC (Teen Reading Club) Scholastic catalogue as it has always been my goal to provide my grade sevens with the gift of a book at the end of the year but I wanted it to be a book choice that they would read or at least enjoy. I am lucky to be in a position to meet that goal this year. I was surprised by some choices and intrigued by others!

Lunch- I had a second 'girl club' meeting to address some of the body science questions the girls wanted to ask about without the boy's in the room. It was an interesting discussion and I have asked the girls to write down any questions they have before our next meeting so I don't take up their (or my) whole lunch hour!

Cindy Cardiff took the Graduation and BFF pictures from 1-1:30pm- it was a bit chaotic because I wasn't in 'control' and the students were uber excited but we managed to get through it -although it was not a great start to a 'settled' afternoon. Your children have been asked to pay $2 of the $6 cost of their Grad picture. Mrs. Paxton has agreed to pay the remaining cost.

Computers were booked for 1:45 and we headed down to the lab next- I intended to show the 2nd part of the Consuming Kids documentary but...there were a number of issues with computers and I missed my timing!! Oh well, there are worse things than the students having some 'free time' on the computers!!

Back to class for the last part of the day and many students were in a very tired and uncooperative mood so I did not manage to complete the personal planning acitivity that I had planned -wrong time of the day for them to be serious but I tried and didn't do such a good job of hiding my frustration. So we packed up and get ready to have a much-needed weekend!

I reminded students that there is little time left for work and/or assignments that are not finished yet. I let them know that I would be working on assessment of completed work and report cards this weekend! That was a cue for those students who needed to, to be responsible enough to take home and complete the incomplete work (see the Homework section above). I don't think it was very effective!!

TGIF (even on Sunday I still feel the frustration)
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and is enjoying the sunshine. I have been working on Term 3 assessment and report cards!
It's back to the grind tomorrow. See you at school!
Mrs. J.
