Tuesday March 2nd, 2010

More students were back in class today. We welcomed back Isaac and Roman who were looking very Barbados (they vacationed on the Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean)!!

I remembered to give the students their Hawaiian key chains and didn't realize how difficult it could be to choose a design :)

We changed the seating plan together at the end of the day as the students were anxious to be in new formation and didn't want to wait for me to do it after school - so, a new seating plan is in effect as of tomorrow. I know it sounds silly but it really does have an impact on the class and putting student combinations together is not as easy as it seems. Wahhh, wahhh!! :)

General Day
started with spelling Unit 18 (after a couple of stoies from our world travellers)

continued with SRA reading lab time

French - we looked at the visual clues and language structures of using French/English translation and picture books to understand the French language. Today we started the book by Roch Carrier, The Hockey Sweater.

We had a welcome back assembly in our family groups which highlighted the students' intention to make our school safe and free from bullying. The student forum performed some skits.

Math- we reviewed the multiplication of integers worksheet we began yesterday. I think they are understanding but I still intend to change math time soon. A quick rule of thumb for both multiplication and division of integers is if the number of negative signs in a given multiplcation division) is even, the product (quotient) will be positive. If it is odd, the product (quotient) will be negative.

Physical Education with Mr. Parker

DEAR time - more of a challenge for some of the students today!!

I took a bit of time to read over the letters home and the importance of ensuring the letters get to you tonight. The information shared will be about the year end camp, possible fundraisers and Mrs. Perkins the principal of Don Ross Secondary will attend to introduce herself and field any questions you may have.

We completed the day by rearranging the seating plan instaed of starting an art project (students choice!!!)

Dimissal after a key chain souvenir :)
Have a great evening,
Mrs. J.
