Tuesday March 16th

Another day that seemed to be over too soon...It's also a four day week with the fieldtrip on Friday. Remember students don't have to come to school on Friday March 19th until 9:45am for the bus to UBC.

Just a heads up- there are still 30+ tickets available for friends or family who would like to take in a Paralympic slegde hockey game at UBC on Friday (12 noon game). Tickets are only $5 each (school price) so of you want to take advantage of the offer please just let me know asap and pick them up by Thursday if you will be heading down on your own.

General Day

The first part of the day was a heads down (open book) review test for the novel that I have been mentioning for the majority of the term. Dragon Keeper. It is hard to understand but I would have to say that probably about 8-10 students either didn't read it or finish it. Choices have consequences...

French compete the fridge project (cuisine dans la refrigerateur)

an unexpected fire drill had us outside for a bit- good practice

Family groups was our next activity- we are making an efofrt to use literature to reach the younger and older students in getting a discussion about bullying going. Just got the stories read today.
Back in class we discussed our own class 'management' or I should say I allowed the students to have a say about how I am trying to manage the class and they made some suggestions that they would like to see implemented - 1. stop talking about it start doing something!! 2. seating came up again as an issue (I don't know if there is a perfect combimation)3. not so many chances- more work oriented detentions- off the sports teams and after school. WOW. All great input- everyone is on notice!!!

after lunch

The grade eight counsellors visited with the principal and vice-principal and we covered all the questions that the students had. They were all given a course outline and information sheet (the same one was issued at the recent meeting) and a white sheet for you to sign with their one BIG decision for next year- do they enrol in band or do a fine arts rotation? This took 1 hour and ten minutes and I was very proud of how well they listened. The Don Ross staff were impressed too and are looking forward to getting to know them better.

I took the next half hour in gym as I switched P.Ed. time with Mr. Parker. The students needed to release some energy so we got basketballs out and played some scrimmages and 21. Of course there were a few who had a hard time containing themselves!!

There was very little time left at the end of the day so we packed up and the floor hockey teams got ready for the practice (boys) and the games at Brackendale (girls)

A student-led conference sign up sheet was also sent home today.

Dismissal
See everyone tomorrow
Mrs. J.
