Isn't it weird (funny weird) how hard it is to start something you haven't done in a couple of days (like working out). My last Blog was Thursday and although I have thought about it I haven't had time or the inclination to Blog and tonight I am dragging my heels but maybe once I get over the fact that I need to 'just do it' (thanks, Nike) it'll all be good!!!
I first must send out a BIG shout of thanks to the students parents and families and friends who came out to support the students' efforts to raise camp funds at the garage sale this weekend. We made a total of $1234 (no kidding 1,2,3,4) from the 'stuff' and the bake sale. We were very fortunate to have so many talented idea and go-to people. The waffle-ice cream sandwiches that are Mr Cadman's specialty went over very well.
I also couldn't believe how fast our clean up went. Everyone pitched in and made it happen in about half an hour. WOW! Thanks to Mr P. and Mr. C. for taking the leftover 'stuff' to local businesses.
Yesterday I was not in class (really not feeling great- think I crashed!)
Ms. Borsoff was my teacher-on-call.
She followed the day plan I planned on Sunday afternoon and completed the following activities with the students:
Short story by Roald Dhal The Landlady which is a really creepy one- the students listened and completed a story grammar outline and then finished an alternate end to the story. Most made a great effort and I enjoyed reading their efforts last night.
Music Mrs McPhee
Term 3 Goal Sheet - students reflected on their term 2 efforts and completed a goal setting activity for the end of the year. It is difficult to believe that this is the last term of elementary school for the grade sevens!
After lunch (indoor due to the weather)
Drug and Alcohol Program Amy McKinnon- Session #3 was related to learning more about the effects of marijuana on the brain and body and what chemicals it contains.
DEAR time
Computer survey with Mr. Elliot
Free time at computers once the survey was completed and back to class for report cards and FSA results, some of the Regal orders have arrived and were distributed in class.
Dismissal
Homework for tonight (and yesterday)
All the forms : Parent satisfaction survey, District Spring Break survey, DRSS course selection form, camp commitment form, student-led conference form and last but not least
the Camp permission, waiver and medical forms went home today with students who have returned their commitment forms. CRAZY
Students not yet complete The Landlady story ending need to hand it in tomorrow
General Day
Started the day with a Health and Nutrition wordsearch while I madly tried to collect all the forms and keep up with those who have them, don't have them and need to have more issued!!!
Thanked and shared the garage sale results with the students (quickly reviewed the costs involved in this year's camp)
Did a quick read of a follow up article for yesterday's drug and alcohol topic and asked students to find three things that they didn't know about the effects of marijuana.
Early snack
family groups : topic bullying- had an interesting discussion from a picture book entitled Howard B. Wigglebottom learns about bullies and I was very impressed at how the grade two/three students were able to discuss the topic so openly and honestly
Math/Science metric SI measurements and conversions
Some students get very surprised at how much math and science are entwined in chemistry and physics!!
Physical Education: badminton with Mr. Parker
Dear time- needs to become a bit more focussed-
Discuss a) new seating organization- feedback from the groups drawn up from last week's requests b) Camp paperwork and necessary forms - distribute and review
c) Term 3 art project: timeline of famous buildings and landmarks (not sure if the students were too enthralled with this one??? I can usually tell- maybe just tired at the end of the day or maybe I'd better offer an alternative!!
Dismissal
floor hockey games for both girls' and boys' teams tonight playing Stawamus
I have to get to cleaning my desk as I have lots of visitors tomorrow for student-led conferences.
