Wednesday was...busy and by the afternoon the students were outdoing me with their energy- sheesh- you'd think there was a holiday coming up or something :)
Homework
Study for Unit 17 spelling test (it's a tough set of words)
read the novel Dragon Keeper
General Day
started and used most of the morning to complete the long write for the FSA informal essay (300-500 words)- the students worked diligently and managed to complete this last section- good job. Some finished earlirer than others and had some time to catch up on missing assignments and the French assignment.
Math practice booklet and puzzles for add/subtract integers - still seems to be some difficulty with the concept of subtraction (I tried the explanation that you can't subtract what is not there so you have to add it first!!??) Some more seemed to understand that explanation...
so -12-(-23)= -12+ (+23)= +11 and -12- (+23)= -12+ (-23)= -35
DEAR time for reading some completed missed FSA sections and others redid Unit 16 spelling test- I offer the re-test to all students interested (I wish more students would accept the opportunity to improve results!!)
Socials/Art- using the Egyptian hieroglyphic alphabet we translated a paragaph regarding the Khufu Pyramid at Giza and I provided every student with an authentic piece of papyrus (from Egypt) for them to write a hieroglyphic message to a classmate. Then students wrote their names in Egyptian lettering on their artistic profiles.
I ended the day trying to share the messages but I think we needed more time for the translation (not to mention the lack of good listening skills!!) and by the time we read them around the class the dismissal bell had rung!!! Panic...
See everyone for more fun and excitement tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
