Hoooo Boy!!! Pituitary glands are kicking in. There is also a TON of junk food beginning to show up in class especially in the morning- some are visiting 7/11 before school and arriving with slurpees and candy- when I see it, it will be confiscated and slurpees will be dumped out. They are in violation of our Ministry regulations and guidelines for what we are supposed to be encouraging at school.
Please have a coversation with your children about their lunches.
It was a doozy today with all sorts of weird behaviour and reactions to the same things we have been doing since September!!! Very challenging.
At an impromptu class meeting after recess we spoke at length about the issues that were landing so many in 'hot water' and what our solutions might be. About one third of the boys have been ramping up behaviour that is getting in the way of normal relationships and learning. Music class had five detentions after school. Throughout the day students were removed from class for various infractions.
The students agreed that the following solutions need to be applied by me fairly and consistently:
1. 2 strikes and out of class for not following our agreed to class rules and for lesson interruptions like calling out, yelling, making persistent noises, not following simple directives etc.
2. in-school detention in office with work or work in another class at the discretion of that classroom teacher (lunch time detentions may apply but do not seem to be taken seriously)
3. If on school team - benched from play (or off team if behaviour persists)
4. sent home from school with work at the discretion of the principal
Many of my students- your children- are fed up and just want the issues dealt with. It is interesting that this afternoon when I started with following through I got arguments from a small number of students who are used to doing what they want! So it will be a bit of a 'battle' but the majority of us intend to stand our ground. I have also spoken at length to Mrs. Paxton and know that she supports the class in this endeavour.
Homework

GENERAL DAY

Personal Planning- completed the section on peer pressure- thinking ahead to situations that they may have to face and make decisions about in the near future
Music
Impromptu class meeting (see above) the students were actually very respectful and forwarded real concerns and issues that were bothering them. We also made suggestions for solutions and intend to follow through for the sake of the the majority of class.
Math pi= 3.14 working on measuring radius and diameter to find the circuference of circles
Physical Education with Mr. Parker
DEAR time longer than usual due to dealing with some issues alluded to above!!
Art- the students made a card today for Kai (his dog was run over and killed) and although we trried to complete the card art we didn't really have the time. After tomorrow I will be suggesting that it goes home for completion as I would like to display them next week.
With all the strange vibrations today, we did not do a section of FSA- they will be doing that tomorrow morning unfotunately during DPA time. That should be fun (NOT)
Oh well I'd better rest up- tomorrow's another day. Friday, Hmmmmm
I just heard from the principal at Valleycliffe a group of our boys were ousted from the Valleycliffe vs Mamquam basketball game there. See folks, some bad decisions are being made and it's not just here in our class!! We'll be needing your support to reign them in. Thanks in advance!
Mrs. J.
