Wow- it's only Tuesday!!
So difficult for this age level to resist throwing snow- they can jump in it, roll in it, eat it, make snowpeople, make snow angels etc. but not throw snowballs!!! Please help support our endeavour at home- thanks- it just takes one student to get hurt or have an eye injury ("you could take someone's eye out with that"!!) to cause an issue.
No new homework- still do not have everyone's work so there are a few who have to complete some assignments.
Thank-you to Z for returning the novel :)
Concert Dress Rehearsal in the morning Wednesday
6:30pm concert students arrive to school at 6:15pm
Spelling Bee Thursday (prizes Top $15 Walmart card 2nd $10 Starbucks card and third $10 cash)- not sure how seriously the students are studying but because of the prizes, I have the majority of the class taking part (a method in my madness!!)
Friday 18th, Red And Green Spirit Day and class Christmas celebration- trying to decide if we want to see a Christmasy movie or do a game or carft!!
General Day
"Housekeeping" took a while as we discussed our Friday plans and set our schedule for the rest of the week see above)
We spent an hour+ on socials this morning beginning the research and notes from text, internet resources and the school library for the socials project.
I reviewed the Mespotamia map and we corrected it /completed it together. We also went over the method for organizing notes for the project starting with breaking up the 15 marks for the first section of the project (Natural Environment) into three paragraphs of 5 marks each and concentrating on finding answers to the questions: 1st paragraph: Where in the world is this civilization? 2nd paragraph: What are the main geographic features and noteable sites? and 3rd paragraph: What is the climate like and what grows and thrives there natural fauna/flora)?
I suggest starting at the beginning of the project outline and working through it strategically like this.
I discourage students from working on a title page so soon into the project because I consider a title page an overview of the whole project and would prefer that they have the nuts and bolts done first- in the past I have seen some students work diligently on a titile page for three weeks and not have much of a report to hand in even if the title page is brilliant, it won't help a student's mark on the overall project!! Same goes for maps.
We completed the French booklet on telling time and I was impressed with the students growing confidence in their French pronunciation. Qu'elle heure est-il? Il est quatre heures dix maintenant et je suis fatigue.
For math we completed the coordinate plane booklet and the challenge page which provided logical clues to plotting the points which created geometric shapes once correctly joined WITH A RULER (you wouldn't believe how many students don't want to use a ruler!!- It is a very important low tech. implement that is crucial to geometry and linear work on graphs and equations!!)
The students got busy next with a folding and cutting assignment that had them create from paper squares some lovely snowflake designs- they are up in the window now and look very nice if I say so myself :)
Thje folding and cutting is crucial and difficult for some- there were some gimpy snowflakes too. LOL (don't hold your breath if you ask me to do origami either)
Physical Education with Mr Parker
DEAR time and gym set up for some in Leadership
Art to round out the day and it was trois heures moins cinq before we knew it.
Dismissal and a newsletter went home today with some letters for parents of the naughty elves who wouldn't stop throwing snow!!
See everyone tomorrow for more fun and excitement.
Mrs. J.
