Today in class
There were four students away today and it is amazing the difference less bodies make in the daily operations!! There was just that bit more space.
We had another productive day. I am really enjoying the challenge of getting the students to be more aware of where the time and their day goes. I am working on transitions between subjects and we are getting better (faster). It is encouraging.
We discussed the novel and where the story is going now that the main character has discovered a 'portal' to the past- the students seem to be getting into it :)
We completed an activity on nouns and the classifications of the different types of nouns. I have found in their writing generally that there is a lot of misuse of the capital letter. I have begun to address that. I use an 'old' text called Communicating Skills and I try to keep it brief working around the class on a verbal participation. There will be a number of written assignments for grammar and language but we have to build up our knowledge of the parts of speech first.
I started to review colours en francais with another silly song called the Crayon Box Blues (to the tune of an old Elvis song)!!
After recess we had our first Family Groups and the grade sevens did a great job as ambassadors for the youngest students in our school the K's and grade ones. They are to be commended.
After P.E. with Mr. Parker (volleyball), we did some DEAR reading and for personal planning we read a recent news article about flu prevention techniques and had a really good discussion about the virus and vaccinations and whether they are 'all they are cracked up to be'. It was very interesting to hear all the different points of view. Some students believe that a flu shot can make you sick and I find it fascinating where they get their information. Much of it comes from discussion with friends and peers (family too) and from the stories they share from all the technological information that is out there today. I can see we will need to examine sources.
We finished the day with some music and art portfolio time- I think you would be impressed with the students Manga practice. They are more talented than I am artistically. I think I would like to create a gallery for them to showcase their work.
See everyone tomorrow. Mrs J.
