As predicted- the computer crashed yesterday just after I finished the blog. I could not get the classroom computer to 'fire up' at all today. Sorry this is another late Blog entry. I'll talk to the IT guy, Mr. Elliot, tomorrow.
Notice today that the Science Olympics venue has been changed from Whistler to Brennan Park on Monday June 8th. Letters will go home Friday to the six students involved. Thanks to Malcolm's mom for agreeing to chaperone. There are approx. 5 students who have ordered and had 2009 hoodies arrive for them. Payment ($25) is due ASAP. Thanks.
Another hot day in class- it is very uncomfortable by the last hour of the afternoon so today we headed outside at approx. 2:30pm because the students said they had a found a nice shady spot but (duh!!) by the time we went to look for it, there wa no shade left!! It was still cooler outdoors than in class. We threw around some frisbees and kicked around a soft ball but lost them in the bush around the school and came back with one less frisbee and one less ball! Good news is that we didn't lose any students!! On second thoughts...
A nice surprise for Jamie K. this afternoon was when Nelson Winterburn and a representiative of the Legion came to present him with another $50 cheque for his Remembrance Day poem which won 1st place in the Squamish District, 1st place in the North Shore and third place overall in the Province B.C./Yukon competition. We are very proud of him and I hope he is proud of himself:)
Congratulations.
We started planning for the Greco-Roman newspaper project today- I'm not sure we have enough time left in the year to do it justice but the students seem to be interested enough. We'll do what we can to make it a fun and positive learning experience.
We started Chapter 10 of the novel and knocked off another vocab. assignment. Phys Ed. was in the morning before the noon hour heat of the day. In French we continued answering the Quelle heure est-il? question using French translating into English. Most students seem to have the pattern of it now although it was difficult getting them to speak it en francais!! Il est dix heures sept maintenant.
We continued and finished (most did) the math worksheet about time problems. Even I had to think about the process of changing days into years , months and days (thank goodness for the trusty calculator or I'd have been there MUCH longer than I was. Maybe I should post some of our grade seven math problems on the Blog and if you can't do them maybe you can get your son or daughter to show you how. I can post the answers a day or so later for avid 'fans' !!! I'll keep dreaming and I won't quit my day job :) Obviously I should have thought of this earlier in the year.
Friday tomorrow, yeah- the heat has made it a loooong week (or seem like a longer week perhaps). I plan to have the students CLEAN desks, organize binders and bins for a last ditch effort at getting any forgotten assignments found, completed and handed in. I will be tallying marks and starting Term 3 reports over the next two weekends. Thanks for reading.
We have a nice display of the poetry and art that has been completed so far- check it out if you come for a visit.
