Monday June 22nd

Sorry to all my 'loyal' Blog followers (I know there's at least two of you :) Apologies if I have disappointed you with the lack of current Blog activity. Last week was one of those weeks I must admit I just got through by delving into my box of tricks for group, partner and individual activities. It was a blurrrrrr...

Trouble is that class attendance has not been consistent and, let's just say, not all students are giving the activities their best effort... However, we all managed to pull through the week but I stand guilty as charged that I have not provided a daily update. Among other things we continued MY novel (I am reading it a little each day) Word to Caesar, logic math and language games are my staple, we have tried some improvisational and drama games (but the sense of humour and level of wit needs to be kept in check). We all learned how to open the school locker locks which I had sent over from HSSS. We had fun doing a grade seven challenge day and dragged out the tug of war rope and did some individual races- the students seemed to enjoy it!!We also did a writing sample for high school English and filled in our sheets which recognised the BEST OF in our class 08-09.

It's now our last week of school. You'd think I would be sleeping easier now that all the grading and reports are out of the way but...I will soon- can't complain (well I can but I'd rather not).

Today we had a Quest Basketball session with the women's basketball coach at Quest University- they are trying to drum up interest in the upcoming camp which runs the first week of July. The students weren't quite awake but they all took part 9-9:15 am. Then we did some script reading by group, partner and a couple of brave souls tried a monologue. After reading and recess break we performed a few sketches; a monologue from Happy Gilmour, Who's on First (Abbot and Costello), The 2000 year Old Man (Reiner and Mel Brooks), Dr Heckle and Mr. Hide (a take-off from Jeckyl and Hyde) and a cute skit called 20 Questions (Erma Bombeck) in which a mother and her sone have a complete conversation that consists of questions. The students did a great job for so little practice time.

Fiona Von Hahn and Mrs. Morfini thanked the grade sevens who had worked all year in the office and delivered the milk and the vegetable programs this year- they had a pizza and pop lunch which will explain the afternoon :)

In the afternoon we did a chapter from the novel, a logic sheet (geometry) inspired and discussed the Tuesday Tacky Tourist Day- we are asking for a nominal $2 donation for the pancake breakfast which will be on tomorrow morning. We rounded out our day with a crazy water pistol tag- it didn't quite run as planned or as I had planned rather but I think for the most part the majority had a little silly fun squirting each other- unfortunately things can turn 'ugly' quickly when you have some spoilsports who want to kick over the water buckets and think they are being funny by hurting feelings!!! The best laid plans....

Our awards day ceremony is on Wednesday at 9:15am which is a change from other years. The awards have been 'pared' back this year. We will be awarding intermediate grades 4-7 with an academic, a merit and a citizenship award. We have recongnised the athletic teams throughout the year. On top of this we will be recognising top academic and athletic in grade seven and will recognise every grade seven student with a conmpletion certificate. Please be our guest and if you can attend we would be delighted to see you there.

Hope to see you all tomorrow. Bring $2, be a tacky tourist and come ready for more fun and adventure. We will be having a visit from Rose Mackenzie tomorrow afternoon (the new principal of HSSS).
